We had a walkon for sat but with less than responses than I hade expected we had to make a few quick phone calls to gather a crew but quickly those spots filled and were were set.....till 2 backed out at the last minute so we talked to the remaining crew and it was a go anyway. At 0400 we left the dock with no wind an a little bit of moon to guide our way. 3 hrs later we arrived just shy of the 100 fm line and were still looking for the big break but after seeing a few marks we put over and with the second line came a runt YFT that pulled off the bar after a couple of secs. then the fleet pointed south and started the hunt for better waters some went east some went southeast but we all spread out and searched. Less than an hour the call went out the just to the southeast the water was warmer and the whites were chewing so overboard we went looking for a few to scratch the crews itch. we soon were met with a suicide white on the flatline that didn't bother waiting for a dropback and soon we were good for a release. after another hour we found a root ball LOADED with gaffers so after a few passes my myself and jake on the matador we decided to bail the gaffers including a 25 lb gaffer by stan on 15 lb spin. There were 2 anglers onboard that were veterans of the jigging thing so we had them put 2 high speed jigs down an the promptly got their assist hooks bit off so 3 jigs later we stopped getting jig bites so we picked up and pointed the boat north to look for a diffrent flavor of meat. We got to our numbers and dropped 4 lines and started to get golden tiles and LARGE rosies then moved to try to find a wreckfish but only found one. so we headed to the barn on flat slick calm seas

I have been reading your replies and saw the video. Nice work. I will soon be fishing the same waters, as a novice to the area I was wondering if you can help another Capt out? I've been running boats my whole life but I have yet to fish VA Beach offshore. I'm a Capt from Cape Cod and used to going after BFT. I am moving a small 26ft Center down with twin 225's from Oct 1 - April 1 so I can try my luck down there. Any suggestions you can help me with? My plan was to mostly run Shimano Tld 25's with 40lb test and Skirted Hoo's. We run Squid bars in the NE but Ballyhoo are usually the number. I'm after the Whites, YF and Dorado's. Not sure here for spreads here but I will do mostly trial and error but always best to find out from the local experts. Match the hatch! ....I'll be staying at Inlet Marina.
Many thanks,
Capt. Dan G.

Welcome to the board, Capt. Dan. You will be here for some outstanding rockfishing (striped bass) as well and it sounds like your boat and tackle will be well suited for that, as well. It ain't offshore but an outstanding fishery just the same. VBSF will be having a rockfish tournament in January, the 'Frostbite Challenge' Information is available under that heading. Good luck and tight lines!
