Wade I had just about scratched the idea of going on Saturday. we woke up on time for fishing...checked the seas & decided to check it out for a short day. we get to the canyon & set lines out &had several white bites (4 I think total) & a few lookers in the spread. we are totally new at this marlin fishng & really don't know anything about it....but we tried any way. we fished just about 1 mile from the fleet.....did'nt want to get in any one's way. around 11:00 the seas were pretty stiff, we were ok, just a little bumpy. I turned north headed right into them & before I could close my windows, a wave crashes into the bow soaking me & as I gasped for air from the shock of it all, another...bigger wave nearly drowns me
I literally spit out a mouth full of sea water & proceed to turn south.....quickly! oh yea, closed those windows too

shoes were full of water & sloshing. If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough! so it was little dicey & we had 1 nice mystery bit on the get reel spreader bar that took our bl/wh ilander... damn! that could have saved the day. not to be. we headed towards home & picked up around 12:30 & ran in. rode the trough all the way in & cruised at 25 knots. flew the skunk flag...damn!
the boat was super salted & I could see the salt glistening in the sun....on my legs & had salt in my ears.
we definately have a lot to learn about these marlin, would love to hitch a ride with someone doing a marlin trip I think we could really benefit & learn a lot.
0 for 4 on whites
0 for 1 on mystery bite
1 for 1 on skunk
next time.......
