Billfishing off of Virginia has been excellent the past few weeks. This past weekend was very good. A little overnight tournament out of Fisherman's Wharf Marina (http://www.fishermanswharfmarina.com) this past Friday-Saturday had 9 boats catch 141 billfish. Mostly whites with a few other billfish mixed in for some interesting Grand Slams. The Sniper caught a swordfish, a sailfish, and 16 white marlin. The Canyon Express released 24 white marlin. The bite was on fire Friday and Saturday. We went fishing on Sunday. Fishing was still good but nobody found the fish balled up like the past two days. I think the top boats caught 6 or 7 fish. Again, mostly whites with a couple blue marlin caught.

We saw maybe 9 or 10, had 6 or 7 bites, hooked 5, and caught 3 white marlin. Chris Boyce released his first-ever white marlin. Roger Burnley released one for his 6th different citation of the year which earns him his first-ever Expert Angler award. Steve Martin released our 3rd on. In addition to the white, we had a good dolphin catch and we had one wahoo bite off.

Beautiful photos again Ken! My name is Steve Martin but not that guy unfortunately. Just got through reading your Behind the Scenes article in fisherman. That's a lot more work than I had imagined. I had to take a nap just from reading the article.

Great Stuff!

Great report and FANTASTIC photos, Ken. And you can't complain about the fishing even if it HAD cooled off from the previous days. My suggestion for the site though is to see if we could get (meaning shang-hai) you into doing a little how-to post on fishing photography and on how you post so many fantastic pics at a time. You win hands down on having consistently the best pics with your posts of anyone I have ever seen on this site. I am really curious what camera, settings and strategies you use to get those great shots. Ever since we entered the digital age, I find that I cannot snap a shot at the optimal moment and end up with tails or water. If you get a few moments and feel generous, please enlighten those of us who envy your prowess! If you can help us out, I am sure Tony S could add it to the tips section.

Nice job Ken and always great photos. The white marlin have been on fire the past few weeks this could be one of the best years we have had in VA in quite some time. seeing all of those flags on the dock Saturday was something.
