With all the Hype going on about the White Bite, and hearing about boats catching 20-40 fish a day!!! we were a little unsure of where we wanted to go Thursday.. Tough decision..
But in the end we stayed true to our TUNA-Crack addictions, and headed south....
The inlet was still a mess going out, and pretty dang confusing... The Channel was still on the north side, between the cans and the dredge, but it was VERY NARROW... did not look like you could even get through there... Saw a few boats on the wrong side... Just remember.... You gotta have BALLS to pass on the side with balls...
Dredge operator was standing by on CH 5.......
Well started fishing North of the Point, near the 100 fathom line, around the 700.... Lots of bait, tons of little blacks and skippies... We started picking up some of the little fellas pretty steady and just kept trolling north...
around 10am, the First good bite of the day was a triple... 3 real good fish.. Only 2 of us on the boat.. All 3 started screaming ... Worked to clear lines asap... In the midst of the madness two of fish crossed and busted off... Still had one, and ten minutes later Mr.yellow is laying on the deck in a pool of blood..... Nice and fat, around 40#.... Fell for a pink and blue daisy chain....
Spread back out, and kept working the area... Heard on the radio about Tunas airing out a little further north... Just kept trecking north and we saw the fleet....LOTS of boats working a pretty small area with a good break... went from around 80-78... Real pretty blue water..
And then We saw the Tunas... Big FAT YELLOW FINS doing Aerial shows 5 feet out of the water... White water explosions, it was awesome.. But they seemed to be pretty picky and there was alot of traffic..... Could'nt get them to bite...
Fished the area till around 4 after the boats started leaving, and began trecking back south toward the Tuna Hole... Bottom of the ninth and hoping for one more chance and then that sweet sound you love to hear.......................................ZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Huge bite on the downrigger.... Sppppooooooooooooooooooooooooling....
Did the chinese fire drill, got the line cleared...
An awesome battle ensued... Those big yellows are TOUGH!!! 20ish minutes later another FAT BOY hits the deck.... This one is easily over 50#.... fell for a B/W Ilander behind a spider bar on the downrigger....
Trolled another 20 minutes or so and then wrapped it up.. Slick Cam ride in.... 35+ the whole way.. Absolutely beautiful day on the water...
The inlet was better coming in.. channel was then on the south side... got under the bridge and seen a fellow boater broken down... So we did our good deed for the day and towed him back in...
All in all Great day on the blue... Want to get back out there before them Tunas move on...

Till the next episode...

Thanks guys.. Yeah after I saw that post you put up on Sportfishemen Bob about VB going off we almost changed our minds and went for the whites...
But your right, Big Tuna bites are the best... and knowing there's a good chance for big tunas was more than enough for us to roll the dice and take the gamble... paid off this time-
