Forgot to ask about anchoring near the SBC. we had almost one knot current going out this morning and could not get the anchor to keep us in place. what type of anchor works best in that area?
How much CHAIN do you have on your anchor? If your anchor is the appropriate size, use more anchor chain. And, of course, are you using a Danforth anchor? Another trick that works great is to add a lead pipe to the bar at the foot of the anchor.Use hose clamps to attach it. The lead pipe adds weight and mass. That little trick will save you a few bucks. Not to come off as a wise guy, but are you using enough "scope"? That is the amount of rope you put overboard, which decreases the angle and gives a better angle of pull. Anchor up away from your target and drift back into position.
I was reminded today why the SBC that name:small boats use that area for transit, but also big boats.I saw a tug with a barge go through there today.Anchoring up NEAR the small boat channel is cool. Not IN the SBC.
