Forgot to ask about anchoring near the SBC. we had almost one knot current going out this morning and could not get the anchor to keep us in place. what type of anchor works best in that area?

How much CHAIN do you have on your anchor? If your anchor is the appropriate size, use more anchor chain. And, of course, are you using a Danforth anchor? Another trick that works great is to add a lead pipe to the bar at the foot of the anchor.Use hose clamps to attach it. The lead pipe adds weight and mass. That little trick will save you a few bucks. Not to come off as a wise guy, but are you using enough "scope"? That is the amount of rope you put overboard, which decreases the angle and gives a better angle of pull. Anchor up away from your target and drift back into position.
I was reminded today why the SBC that name:small boats use that area for transit, but also big boats.I saw a tug with a barge go through there today.Anchoring up NEAR the small boat channel is cool. Not IN the SBC. blink.gif

Yep Danforth anchor. used most of the rope to decrease the angle but never caught. believe 100 feet of rope, not much chain only about 4 feet. trying to anchor a 21' parker. thought maybe we needed a sand anchor, ever used one? Thanks for the advice.

I fished small boat channel last night from 7:30 til about midnight and not one bite. Used everything mentioned by Knot Wishin on earlier post. I guess timing is everything. Noticed last couple of posts that guys were catching right before dawn. Is very early morning the best time?

I have found the out going tide the last couple hours has been very productive for me. I will be out there around 330am in the morning. cool.gif The tides are right for table fare. tongue.gif

Just looked at the tide table, you where fishing incoming tide. Give the out going a try.

We were definately fishing the outgoing tide and i've never seen birds that thick. On the light line we could see fish flashing on the surface. all the ones we caught were full of glass minnows. I told my son "if you are not trying to get the luer stick on the pilings you are not fishing" we had a few drop after bouncing off the piling and immediately was hit. but the early morning birds were amazing.
did catch two trolling a heavy metal jig and had to get really close to the pilings to hook up.

keep and eye on the out going tide.... best time is a few hours before and after when the tide is moving at its best..... wont be long before the trolling bit will be on.... sbc has allways been a favoret of mine....
