Left Rudde about 5:15 aboard "Dawn Patrol". Ran the the outskirts of the thunderstorms most of the way out. Got lines out and trolled to around the 860/380 lines and got into them. First hit at 9:30 on hoo w/ green witch...boated 30# YFT. Circled around and hooked one on pink spreader bar with hoo and Get Reel Shooter tracer. Lost at the boat. Got some of the lines out and hooked on green witch again. Boated another 30# YFT. Started putting lines out and as buddy was feeding back the pink spreader, it gets nailed. Boated 30#YFT. After that had another lost at the boat(I needed the best gaff man-- Mike--Rockin' Robin) and landed another 30#. We couldn't keep the lines in the water and couldn't rerigg fast enough. We had several other knockdowns: all the action between 9:30 and noon. There was a great temp break from mid 70's up to 83. Tuna were on the cooler side in 30 fathoms. Every hit/hook up on either pink spreader bar with Get Reel Shooter hoo tracer (pink/blue) or hoo with green witch. Had a green bar out with green machine tracer and got nothing. Switched to hoo tracer and got it got hit. Final tally...(4) 30# YFT out of 6. Heard of a couple of white marlin out there!! They're coming.
Mike...missed having your skills on the boat. No more non-fishing days for you!!!

Very Good Work!
We left Lynnhaven @ 0400. Lines in at Hot Dog @ 0615. We noted water temp had zoomed to 79, so I thought that would move out the bluefin. We stayed 2 hours - only 1 large bonito.
Lifted riggers and moved to 21/22 fathom fingers. Water temp still a toasty 79. Place was deader than Elvis. Two more hours wasted.
Heard vague messages of something happening in 30 fathoms. Lifted again and ran 12 to the east to a large pack of boats in 30 fathoms. YFT on in 15 min on pink sea witch/ballyhoo. Had a second strike on natural cedar plug 15 min later but that pulled off. Things died until 2:15pm. I was sitting there dozing thinking about the long ride home and listening the to the Yankkes - Red Sox game. Great am radio reception 65 miles out.
Then KA-BOOM- the port rigger goes off like a 12 gauge and we watch a 50 unload two hundred yards of line in a flash. I mean it was screaming, making it clear that this was no 25 lb yellow-boy. We had a 45 min. battle. The fish would get near the boat and sound - taking 50 yards with ease. This happened at least 4 times. My man Tim who was handling the rod was completly wasted. At 3:00pm we got the leader and saw him. At least a 125 lb bluefin. I leadered him as gingerly as possible. We had two gaffs ready and then pop the 130lb flouro leader just parted. I watched him slide away slowly. At least he was not hurt and will give some one else a fight.
Rode home quietly thinking of that lost fish and listening to the Bronx Crew take down the hated Red Sox. Got a good soaking from a torrent from a thunderstorm between the Tower and Lynnhaven.
Is offshore fishing great or what!

NOAH...my son went out friday and saturday aboard "Renegade" for a couple of corporate trips...friday was a bust...one big long boatride except two little YFT to 25 lbs, let the guests/clients take meat home to Richmond...I was supposed to wake him up at 0330, set the alarm and CRAP its 0416 and no alarm...mad dash around the house getting him out just knowing he was gonna miss the boat...knowing he's gonna be hell bent getting to the marina, just knowing one of Va. Beachs Finest non fishing officers is waiting for him ticket in hand...feeling like a schmuck caused I caused hiim to miss an offshore...well he makes it and it paid off in spades...his largest to date BFT 55 lbs and a total of 4 fish 2 BFT 55 and 35 and 2 YFT 25 to 35...good day on the water

Don,
Pretty Work!!! See you can fish without me, just don't do it very often. I'll be back out there in August, until then remember only head shots with that gaff, and for god sake let that leader go (B.K.)!!!
