Mega Bite

Jason S. and John B. fished with me yesterday,we ran out of Rudee at 5 am.We had a cool light show from the T storm that headed down the Easternshore to the north. We put our lines in at the Hot dog and before we could get all our lines out we had a King Skyrocket through our baits. While I was letting out the port high rigger another larger King skied a red and white cedar plug.Unfortunately both fish hit the part of the chain with no hooks. We trolled down the Dog and across the Horse Shoe Lumps since we had no action and we didnt see any baits we picked up and ran to the 21 Fathom Finger as soon as we got there Jason spotted a large Marlin jumpimg some baits off our port bow a few hundred yards out.We trolled in that direction but had no luck.In fact we had no luck at all so we Trolled back to the Dog and finally picked up a Blue Fish at the edge of the Horse Shoe Lumps.Things started to look fishey but it was 630pm and it looked like a storm was comeing out of the West. When we were 22 miles out of Rudee we saw a really bad Front with lightning hitting the water and even a few water spouts. We took down the outriggers ,removed all rods from the rocket launchers and put down the anteannas. In that short time things worsened to the point of the sky being black. We ran hard as we could to the South for 45 miles the whole time calling people on land to get reports of the storms size and progress. At times we all 3 were on the phone. At several points it looked like we were going to get caught but the Mega Bite finally out ran the huge 60 mile wide storm. It was pitch black 9 30 pm we were 20 miles outside Oregon Inlet and decided not to run in the Inlet at low tide without any clue where the ever changing channel was.We then headed back to the Beach using radar the entire way.We finally made it back to Owels Creek at about 11 30 pm with about 1/64 of a tank of gas.Gave the wife a scare ,but I am glad we made it back without anyone getting hurt. The only casualty was Jasons bran spanking new cooler lid .

Good to hear you got back in! That afternoon storm was a B#$*%!! The lightning strikes looked like they were from one end of the sky to the other. Pretty awesome site.

Mega-Bite glad you made it with no damage to crew or craft. We hit the north end of it but it was nowhere near as bad as you describe. It looked awful down south at Rudee, you were smart to wait it out.
