Mega Bite
Fished solo and started late.I didnt get to the Ramp til Noon it was 101 Deg.F when I rolled up in the lot.I found baits off the Golf Ball. The swell from the Storm is large saw some 5 foot rollers. The water is so clear I could see the Menhaden 10 feet down.I managed to catch 2 Cobia one was about 40 lbs the other was about 25-30 Lbs.I caught both fish with live menhaden with a spinning rod the second one fought like a horse. The water was 78 Deg.and clear as Gin about 3 Miles out.

Nice talking to you at the ramp today. How did you like that smell in the back of my truck?

Man, I didn't know that the cobia would be down by the golf ball. I think I was there once earlier this year chasing striper. I commend you on dealing with the heat, I whimped out quick when I stepped out of the a/c.

Left Lynnhaven yesterday around 2:15 and headed out to the 12 mile marker. Started chumming and hooked up almost instantly. Shark after shark. The eels didn't last more than about 2 minutes after getting wet. Fished both top and bottom in about 15 feet of water. Tried a bit of crab as well as bunker to see what else would bite. More sharks, with the occasional 4 foot hound/needlefish in the slick. Sharks got so aggressive they actually came up and ate the chumbag off the back of the boat with about 5 of 'em tearing it apart. Pretty cool to watch, actually, and there was no lack of pullage with the constant shark action...

Saw one small cobia follow a hooked shark up to the boat, but swam away as soon as we offered it an eel. Hooked up with one other cobe but lost him after 2 runs.

Moved to the shelter of the bay side of the 4th Island after it started getting real rough around 6:30pm and my two buds started making their own chum slicks. Caught a couple sea bass and one spadefish. Couldn't get the rest of the small school to bite. Question with that...should you leave your first hooked spade in the water to keep the school close? They kept following the hooked spade, but again, wouldn't take any clam being offered. They also followed a hooked blowfish up, but wouldn't take our offerings again...

All in all a fun albeit hot day on the water. Got two friends out who have never caught anything bigger than a rainbow trout, so it was fun getting them some different action.

Mega Bite,

Were you anchored and using chum or drifting when you picked up your cobia? Glad to hear that their is some bait down south. The past 2 trips I had to run up to atleast the Cavalier hotel to find them and then back down to fish.

Yesterday I was anchored for the 1st one and drifting for the second.I saw the second one up on the surface and pitched him a live one.Frank that rotten Striper I had in my cooler last year was the worst smell ever.

Hey, dilligaf---I know what your sign in name means, I bet that there aren`t too many that do. My brother uses dilligas, so it wasn`t hard to figure out. I run out of East Beach Marina in Little Creek- Boat name is " One Mo Pass" famous last words when wire-linning the bridge. How big were the sharks at the 4th? I`m taking a perch-jerker next thursday, so after I wire line a while I would like to put him on some bottom stuff. Haven`t been since the end of May, boat went down again, just repowered in oct. of 04 with a new crate engine, not a re-man or re-build, so it`s been a real pain the @#@$%@^@% butt if you know what I mean.
If you are out thursday give me a shout on 68,.

See Ya,

Capt Skid/Billy Boy,

Funny that somebody else out there uses the same tag. As for the sharks, biggest was a little over 4'. Didn't weigh it since I was more interested in letting it go without getting bit. Most of the other sharks were around 2-3'. I was using circle hooks with a 50' mono leader, and only had one bite through. I'll look out for you guys next time I'm out...
