I went out and set up on Smith Shoal in the ocean in 29 ft of water. It was very clear - visibilty seemed to be close to 20 ft. Was there about a half hour and a heard a storm was headed my way - saw a dark cloud and decided I had better head in cause i was alone. Set up on 9 ft shoal on ocean side with croker and fresh bunker. Fished the incoming tide in very clear water and caught 3 skates and had a suspicious run - set the hook and it kept going for 3 seconds till the bait pulled out - when it came back i could see scales missing and where the fish bit down.... I had switched from bunker to cut sand mullet cause the crokers or something kept eating my bunker. From the sounds of it i should have tried the sheepshead fishing - I was alone though and uncertain about using a wreck anchor or fishing a pylon without any help. Released the fiddlers and leftover crokers later in the day. BTW - it took me a while to find the croker but drifting at the highrise seemed more productive than the usual spots i try around the concrete ships since i launched from kiptopeke.
