good evening folks, well after my last failed offshore trip i had a good sit down with my long time fishing bud and come to find out he is learing of going offshore at all in anything less than a 60' hatteras built.

o well but to the question at hand he wants to go spanish mack fishing and i since he brought up i dont think i have ever targeted them. i think ya troll spoons but i am not sure on a decent location? any ideas? any special time of yr.? i kinda suggested looking for some kings but he has a couple buddies that he has allready gotten lined up for spaniards so what the heck i will try it.....................at least once

Spanish are easy... troll 00 clarkspoons (play with different colors), troll on the surface and with inline weights or planers, troll about 5 knots, play around with your leader length, usually quite a long one if behind a weight or planer, troll around cape henry, sandbridge, and look for bait popping. Enjoy.

If you start catching to many blues bump your speed up to 6 and a half or 7 and you can keep the blues off.

lately, I have had good luck with the red clarkspoons. Also, I always have a larger spoon like a big Krockadile or hopkins on a short handline just outside the prop wash and I have had good luck on that as well. Im not sure if it is more effective as a teaser or as a bait, but when I have one out, I catch more fish.
If you get on a school of them and they are busting, pull out ultra light casting rods and toss a gotcha plug or small spoon to them. Its one thing to get them trolling, but if you can hook one on ultralight they will give you a good time.
