Anyone know where I can rent a small boat for a half day or day?
I have a couple of friends coming to town next weekend who want me to take 'em fishin. Trouble is I Kayak fish, so I know where the good spots are - just can't pile 3 people on the yak.
I'm looking for anything small - jon boat, <15 ft CC, or something similar for next weekend.
Any ideas?

Last time I bought crabs at Lynnhaven Seafood I noticed they rent Carolina Skiffs. $59/hour for first two hours then $49/hour. They have a 19' and a 23'. I think you need to reserve them and gas is not included.

I always wondered why there wasn't more boat rentals in this area. Up at the Jersey shore they are everywhere.

The Marina on willoughby spit at the base of the HRBT rents boats. Don't know the name of the marina or the prices but I have launched there and seen the rental boats. I think they are pretty cheap.

$59/hour??? wow. I'd buy a used jon boat before I spend $300-$400 for a day of fishing.

The Willoughby Marina has 14ft Jon Boat for reasonable - about $90 for 8 hrs.
Where would we fish around Willoughby from a 14ft Jon Boat??? HRBT??
I usually fish Lynnhaven and Owls Creek Areas.

I never said it was cheap. For those prices ($59/hour) you would be better off getting a charter.

If you are military, or one of your friends are, you can rent boats from the marinas on base for very little money. (Amphib Base: 462-7516; Naval Air Station: 444-9342; NNSY: 396-7442; NOB: 444-2918).

Although I'm a little leary of base rentals. A couple of weeks ago I was kayak fishing around the inlet at Rudee and a guy there with his young son was in a rental from the base. The batteries crapped out and he had to beach it next to the jetty on Croatan and leave it for someone to come and pick up. I guess it could happen with any boat.

Base rentals look good, the boats are mostly skiffs, only seen them from distance. If you are in the miltary you have to walk in and check out the stuff there, not just the boats.
