I know probably no one is interested in this but I went crabbing again today and loaded up again. In fact, we caught all we wanted in about 45 minutes and I just culled out and threw back when we left. All caught in Crab Creek in Lynnhaven right as you leave the creek leading from the ramp. As long as I can catch crabs like that, I'm gonna take occasional breaks from fishing and go for it. Crab cakes and stuffed flounder tastes pretty good in January and crab meat freezes really well. Oh well, hope everyone on the bay had a good day.

When you leave the Lynnhaven boat ramp and reach the end of that little creek, if you turn left you are headed towards the Lesner Bridge. If you turn right, you are in Crab Creek.

The crabs I caught were varied in size. Most were females which is what should be this time of year. Females come to the mouth of the bay where the water is salty to lay their eggs. Most of the males stay up the bay to drink beer and watch baseball. They've done their reproduction thing. No reason to leave the old homestead. My wife and I caught most of ours in deeper water on chicken backs on a string. The current is a real pain and some of the crabs pull off before you can net them so I would suggest being there close to tide change. I threw back most of the cushion crabs so they could lay their eggs. I found out something. When things start to slow down, put on a fresh piece of chicken and it starts all over again. Once out of the water, get them home fast. They seem to die really quick in this heat and you don't EVER want to cook a dead crab. Good luck.
