Has anyone ever been sighcasting for cobia out of rudie Inlet? I did a similar trip earlier in the year when they were slaying them out of Oregon Inlet. I figured I could do the same thing by going out of Rudie Inlet. Left RI in the morning and worked temp breaks all day long with no results. Had to stop by a buoy and drop a menhaden to get the skunk out of the boat. I managed 2 nice stingrays but I had to do it. Then I did see one cobia on the buoy lines right at the mouth of RI. Accidently ran it over and scared it off. Can anyone give me advice. Is sightcasting for cobia out of RI the same as sightcasting for them out of Oregon Inlet. I hear people doing it all the time out of OI but not RI? Why is that? Am I just wasting gas? Maybe I should just stick with the plain ole anchor and chumming.... been chumming 3 times this year and caught 6 cobia with 4 over 50 pds. Released all but one cobia. I only keep one cobia per year! More fish for all of us to catch next year since I think the cobia count is dropping tremendously each year! These fish are too bueatiful and powerful to kill.

Sounds like your old methiod was working well. You can sight cast for them out of RI, late August and early/mid September you will find them under the bouys. Run the bouy lines and you will have your chance at sight casting them.
