I'm looking at a new boat...28'6 Southport. They're a very new company started actually in 2003 out of outer banks. I saw this boat at the Waterside boat show a month or so ago and just went down to the local dealership to check it out a little further. Going for a Demo ride on Sunday to see how it handles...
Looks like an awesome boat...anyone have any information on this boat I would appreciate a come back....it's very new so doubt anybody has been on one....Bob

I looked at a couple in Kitty Hawk. Man, they were laid out by a fisherman. Everything seems to be right where you want it. Felt solid. Tell me how they ride. The boys it Kitty Hawk had nothing but praise. I thought it was a little pricey. The tag on the one I looked at was like $125,000. I just bought a house for $85,000.

With fuel prices the way they are I would look for something with a single OB. A well tuned OB, a good radio and someone to run with is all you need to fish offshore. I know the guys that build this one, have fished their demo boat with owner of company ... it's over built.

If I recall, I think southports are made in Carolina also. I have not fished on a regulator or a southport, but the southport feels to me as being a better layout.
I'll just stick to my alumacraft.

My point is that Regulator has proven itself, been tested and has a great reputation = RESALE VALUE.

Thanks...I already have a Aquasport 250 Explorer with twin 150 4Strokes...happy with the ride but it's a really really wet boat when heading offshore in anything over 3 - 5. The Southport has just peaked my interest and I want to see how it rides. Don't know where it's gonna lead. preciate the offer though...Bob

Bob, the Southport is a sweet looking rig. If things don't work out with the Southport give me a ring. Contender 25 measures 28' and has a 8'10" beam.I'm looking at the new 29 Regulator, man what a tank!

Yea..that regulator looks good also. I'm moving up myself...the southport is a 28'6 and has a 10'6 beam....definately want something with a bigger beam..
i know...can't tow a boat legally with a 10'6 beam...but hey...I only live about 10 minutes max from the Owls Creek boat ramp

Mega, they do make a 29 Regulator. I just got the new info sent to me from Bluewater Yachts. It's 29' and has a 9'6" beam,285 gal fuel cap. It's a tad bit pricey, but it looks like a battle tank. The ready to fish weight is around 10,500! The salesman at Bluewater has one in stock, I'm going to go check it out next week.
