Hello all. Decided to say heck with the weatherman and small craft advisory and give it a shot. It was day 10 of striper season and hadn't been out yet to wet a line, so off we went. A beautiful sunset and calm conditions made for a nice trip out to our favorite spot. The water was 69.5 and the current was rippin. Had a little trouble anchoring, but it finally took. We were rewarded right off the bat with a portly 26" striper. The stripers were deeper, so it was taking at least a 6" storm to get down to them. Anything smaller and the blues made quick work of it. (I have a tackle box full of half-eaten storms if anyone's interested

). The taylor blues were going nuts and slashing at anything. No size to them, but still fun. We were using light spinning gear with 10 pund test. The 26" had the rod bent over and pulled a little drag. The rest of the stripers were 18-20" range and we lost a big one when my brother was trying to manage 2 rods at once with a fish on and I couldn't help due to the current pushing the boat while we trolled a little. Best (or worst) cast of the day yielded two seagulls--the birds were thick in the lightline swallowing up what the blues were decimating. All in all a great night out and a good way to pop the cherry on this striper season.
