I know this is a forum supposed to uplift the average fishing man and woman but this might prepare some for the worst . Sat night I went to the 4th 3rd adn 2cnd island we cought a bunch of blues which was fine but we didn't get our fix so we we can back to eat dinner left the boat at lynnhave marina which now is closed at 6 as some may know I left everything on the boat so i could get out on the water with the quickest of ease but of coarse the weathe staring becoming nasty and had to wait till the next morning. Suprise Suprise when I come to the boat some Jerk stole everything off my boat 8 rods and reels all my tackel and even my tool box. What a jerk now how am I supposed to go fishing now. rrrrrrrrrr this erks me. Well not to be a sulker but just be careful I wish had been my dads never gonna forgive me for loosing his custum off shore rigs he spent alot of money on those and was kind enough to let me borrow them till i could afford my own.

Man that sucks. I'd be pissed too. It's not just the money, but the violation. I'd bet it was some jerk who doesn't even fish--just took the opportunity to steal and will prob. sell it on the street for nothing --just to get a fix. Sometimes when I get in late at night I think about leaving the rods and the GPS on the boat for next time, but usually take it home--now I'm sure I'll cont. to do that.

I hope you filed a police report--just in case the idiots do get caught with the stuff, they'll know who it belongs to. I hope you get your stuff back!!!

Man, I feel for you. When I was at the Boatel, I would see all kinds of stuff left out. That place is supposed to be under surveillance at night. Did you contact them about seeing if they caught anything on tape?

yeah fourtunatly im good friends with the [art owner and yes i have evidence ill let you guys know what happens. they have a great security system and awesom staff which are all helping so i think we got this guy it appears two be two guys somewhat older i see them show up and leave us va # and all so this guy is screwed i cant say anything else about it yet but will give you guys the full detail. Your right though its not the fact that its valued over a thousand bucks its the fact that those rods caught me some citations not to mention olthers first fish they totally stole my mojo im gonna have to find some new stuff. what really sucks is it was ALL my stuff.

I'm glad you've got a lead. I was coming into Sunset Boatel last week at around 11:30 pm and the "securtiy" guy decided to wander out of his van (by the way in the exact same spot it was when we left 5 hours ago) and watched us clean our fish. He then suggessted we needed some sort of pass to be there. I told him I pay a lot of money to keep my boat here and have 24/7 access and all I need is my launch card. He backed off and said--well I was told you needed a pass because someone "broke into a car in the lot" the other night--seems like that is his responsibility as the security guard--to actually "guard" the premises and the boats in the water. With the quality of security guys that the boatels have around, I think we all need to protect our own property.

The same thing happened to me when I left my boat in a storage yard in Kingsmill in Williamsburg. Went cobia fishing one day and dropped boat off in storage yard. Plan was to cobia fish again the next day. Left all my gear and EVERYTHING in boat overnight inside cuddy cabin. Somebody broke into it overnight and stole everytihng - 10 rods, tackle, new high powered binoculars, VHF radio, and fishfinder. Just completely disappeared. Might as well take the engine while your at it!! This was 3 years ago. Kingsmill security isn't worth a damn!

Sorry for your loss Overtime!! Let me give you something to help lift your spirits a little and give you a little hope. I read on a post on a FL website about a guy that had his boat stollen. He filed a report with the police and several months later the boat was found and returned to the owner and arrests were made. To make things even better, 3 months after the return of the boat he gets a letter in the mail from the state's attorney with a check for $1000 bucks for restituion for the owner's trouble from the jerk who stole it .
I hope they catch the sucker and throw the book at 'em!!! mad.gif mad.gif Good luck!!

Forgot to mention--Ditto what NJ1 said. File a police report! If they attempt to pawn it, the pawn shop is bound by law to check it against a stolen property sheet - at least that's what I was told when some punks stole my vehicle w/over $1000 of fishing items inside (vehicle and items were recovered intact).

When I was at the old Lyn. Waterway Marina, same thing happened,,broke in my boat stole all my tackle and then to be cute, set off my fire ext. inside the cabin..
It happened when we had some Hurricane blowing through I think in 96` but not sure of the year...Well they caught the guy, and at last report was still in jail....From time to time I get an update where he is being kept. He is suppose to make restitution before he get out..But, I`m way down on the list..Same guy hit
Va. Beach Schools for some $50,000 worth of stuff and about 6 more boats the same nite he hit mine, one being a Sportfisherman,,he took about $10,000. worth
of gear off that one....
Hope you get yours back..I never did,,,The cops said that most of the gear was
fenced in N.C. !!!!!!!!

Hope you catch them, those rods are cursed for the new users.Check all the pawn shops,Trading post adds. Now when every boat passes you will be checking to see if they have your rods. Maybe you should post a description of each rod and reel, color, brand& model #`s that way you will have almost 3000 pairs of eyes looking.

Had the same thing happen to me at the Sunset Beach Inn at Kiptopeke in 2003...took all my rods, tackle...etc...I believe that stealing a man's fishing gear is about the lowest thing you can possibly do...The police in Cape Charles came down and filled out a report, but the officer said that I would probably never see the stuff again. He said that addicts steal the tackle, and then sell it for next to nothing, just to get high.....my advice to any upstanding American/fisherman: If anyone tries to sell you tackle for a deal that is too good to be true, DON'T BUY IT!! All this does it encourage these freaks to continue this practice....Also, lock your gear up. It takes a bit longer, and is a hassle, but definately worth it!!!

Ovetime,

Sorry to hear about your troubles, man what a jerk(s). I hope they catch the guy(s). I've kept my boat at the Lynnhaven boatel for the last 2 years and never had a problem. Of course I haven't left to much stuff onboard overnight. There are always a few a-holes that ruin it for everyone.

My uncle kept his boat at willoughby marina 2yrs ago and one night he had his tackle box stolen of the boat sitting right in the water. But I guess that was not good enough for the thieves about 6mths later he pulled in to the marina and his boat and trailer were gone he asked the staff there if they had seen anyone hook up to his boat and their answer was nope.I guess you get what you pay for.
