Seas were small, winds light. Got into the yft's south of the Point in 100 fathoms. Had a limit of 15 in the boat by 1:30. All on witches, color didn't matter. They came in groups of three or four, which always makes it fun. Love those multiple hookups. The spreader bar didn't catch like it did 2 weeks ago. 2 fish were in the 40 - 45 lb range, the rest were 20 to 25 lb footballs. Caught one on a #4 planer with a witch/hoo and dragged it until it died of old age. The fish and the planer put the same bend in the rod. And we cheated this week. Had the boys at the dock clean the fish while we had a cold one in Moe's. 320 lbs. Now my freezer is happy and my addiction satisfied, for the moment. Couple of tips most of you already know: Be sure to maintain your speed after the first hookup, it leads to multiple hookups and go light on the leaders, use florocarbon if you can. There were quite a few boats out there and the fish are getting shy. Put something in the way back position, if boat traffic permits. That's where the two bigger fish came from. Tight lines and good luck.

Nice Job,South of the Point ,nice!I couldnt get it together so I stayed here.Glad to see you got in em.We were playing with actually speeding up some after the 1st hook up this summer,it seemed to work but its harder on the 1st Angler. What size Flouro were you down to?Were you guys using wind on leaders?

Most were on 80 lb floro wind on swivel leaders. The rest were 100 lb floro on snap swivels. I know the wind ons are real popular, but I still have my doubts. Specifically I worry about the hook pulling free with the fish at the side of the boat and the rod loaded up. That hook and chin weight will come screaming back at the
wireman. I'm sure we all have our share of battle wounds, and my face couldn't help but be improved by the impact, but losing an eye is a real possibility. Typically I minimize the load on the rod by bringing in the fish hand over hand with the angler just reeling in the slack. But I always worry that someone else might not know better and get hurt. Here's a bonus tip I picked up over the weekend. It's so simple I'm embarassed that I didn't think of it. When tying your ballyhoo rigs, use a slightly oversized crimp at the hook end. Take the tag end of your line along with a short length of 60 lb wire and pass them together through the crimp, egg sinker, hook and back through the crimp. Crimp as normal. Now you have a loop of wire through the hook and when Mr. Wahoo comes along, it will better your odds of boating him. Probably a third of my bite offs happen when a fish's teeth cut the line against the chin weight. Every little bit helps. It seems the fish are moving south rapidly. Hatteras may be a better bet by next weekend. Tight lines.

Once the Tuna is Boat side and ready to be Gaffed,we learned to back off the drag a bit incase they make a Quick burst away from the gaff.It helps prevent last minuet breakoffs.
