Went out this morning after a week of family commitments and oral surgery (a fate worse than death). Took my brother and set out from Lynnhaven. Radio reports of lots of birds and plenty of nice fish off Cape Henry. Got there too late. Caught one around 23 but the birds were sitting on the water. Heard good reports from the third island so took off for there. Birds everywhere but fish had lockjaw. Saw a few caught but small. I trolled, casted, jigged with bucktails and every size Storm lure made. NOTHING. What is going on? Finally, the wind came up and I had to head in shore (brother can't take too much sea). Spent some time inshore of the first island. NOTHING. Finally went to the SBC and caught a few of the smallest stripers I have ever seen. About the size of an average croaker. Another bad wind day, I guess. Hope someone has a better story.

Sorry for you're not so good day. At least you were out fishing on a Monday. Thanks for the report.
What kind of talk was going on about Cape Henry??

We headed out to the HighRise this morning we EEled the pilings, caught a few Dinks and a Dog.Then we went to the Ocean and Trolled with some new Daisychains I made .The Storms dont make for a good daisy chain they spin too much.We did manage to catch a few 35 inch Striper that I released at my dock in lynnheaven. The bait of the day was a bubblegum Stretch 25 with a red head. The weather was really nice we were fishing without sonar today I felt like I was fishing with one hand tied behind my back.

My wisdom teeth are coming out Thursday, so no fishing for me for a while. I can handle the pain (I think), but it's gonna suck not to be able to fish blink.gif

Mega,
How many storms do you have on your chain? Is each storm spinning or is your entire daisy chain? I have one made with (4) 6" storms using 80# test. I have them attached to a single leader seperated by about 3' of line, I attached the storms to the line by using a double loop knot 3-4" above the storms and the last storm you could use your knot of preference, I used a clinch knot. The stiffness of the 80# line keeps them swimming freely under the loop knots and leader. I have had no problems with them spinning. I usually run mine with an inline sinker.

I have had no luck with them on stripers this season, however, I did catch a shark trowling it at CH on Sunday. Now I have to rebuild my entire chain......whole nother story.

Gargle with warm salt water several times a day,I got a dry socket on one that I had removed,it had me on the couch for a few days. Its amazing what something that small can do to a Grown man. I didnt cry I swear!

My main line is 100 lb Flouro, the 6'' Storms are 12 inch apart on 80 lb mono 10'' leaders They are all Crimped on. I had 12 storms on this rigg. The Bucktails are so much easier to work with that I might not try the Storms on a Daisychain. I think I am going to put them on a Dredge or a Spreader Bar.

Hope my story will make ya all feel better. Went out this morning (monday) and fished CH. Was trolling two MOJO rigs and one stretch 40+ way back. After a turn the Mojo and stretch was tangled. Had one 20" striper on the MOJO (on the 6" storm trailer). Had to cut the lines of both to untangle rig. Pulled the second MOJO rig and lost another larger stiper. Left CH (no more bites) and went to CBBT and trolled the 2nd to 3rd island (birds everywhere - but no fish again). Trolled a single MOJO with 6" storm chaser and WRAPPED THE WIRELINE (MANY MANY YARDS) around my prop. Stalled out the engine, drifted through bridge almost hitting pilings. Spent the next hour cutting wire out of prop. Wind kicked up and I went home. Now tell me, did ANYONE HAVE A BETTER DAY THEN THAT.....YUCK!!

Makes me think about the time I found that wreck that is up along side the bridge out past the second island around 36-59.47N / 076-06.04W with both downriggers and three stretches all at the same time on an out going tide. DOUBLE YUCK

Soon the wind will stop and the fish will come!

I guess fishing is like life: no matter how bad a day you had, someone's day was worse...AND no matter how good a day you had: someone's day was even better. I can sympathize with with you who are having "tooth events". I just had a second root canal in two years on the same tooth. The first one didn't heal properly according to the dentist. All I can say is, MOTRIN 800 mg. Good luck!

Vitamin M does nothing for me. The Marine Corps ruined me for that...hey, broken leg, have some Motrin, cracked skull, have some Motrin...

I'm just ticked I can't fish this weekend. I'm thinking about doing the FM99 striper tourney, and would like to get out and look around for some spots this weekend, but that won't happen.

There's always fishing on the Playstation though... laugh.gif

This is prescription Motrin not over the counter and 800mg is a lot. Oh, I forgot to mention, I took it with Ancient Age bourbon. Maybe that was the difference. biggrin.gif

That's what the military gives is the 800mg...and they give it like candy man.

I would say the bourbon is definitely what made the difference there... blink.gif

HMMMMMMMMMMM, I can't imagine why you didn't hook any fish Monday @ the 3rd.....everybody was catching tons of fish, me personally I fished using 6" storms on top water and managed at least a dozen fish 8 to 12lb range, very fat and healthy....decided to try for the larger fish down deep trolling stretch 25, mojo chartruese w/ 6oz bucktail combo, and finally umbrella rig.....on several passes i caught fish 3 @ a time on the umbrella, several larger fish on the buck tail, and one fat fish 40" + on the mojo that broke my line @ the boat....the fish were there........ biggrin.gif
brutter
Where at the third were you fishing?? i had similar good luck just North of the second with Storms trolled deep, but no huge fish. Got some fat 23-25" fish though.
