Those big girls aren't "still" in the river, they are just starting to show up in numbers. And they won't be leaving for a good long while, but when the temps get low, the fish get slow, and they will be hard to catch until they start moving back downstream in the spring. They winter over and develop their roe. Keeper size fish should be upstream of Freddyburg now that Embrey dam is out of the way. The fall line is a fun place to hit them on light tackle in the spring. They're after the shad, so when the fly fisherman are out in force, you know its time for topwater.
