FISHWATER
I just made a phone call to a friend of mine out there today. They are fishing the "Green Can" and things are reeeeeally slow. As of 3pm they caught 3 rockfish since 8am. Biggest was a 36" caught on a stretch Chartruess 30.
Lotta radio talk about a BIG BITE down at Corralla. Don't have the specifics on the bite but it may help those going out tommorrow. I myself would never run that far for rockfish blink.gif

We did'nt fish today but will be out tommorrow.
Good luck all

that is the way i feel. i would run a hour and a half for a tuna but not a rockfish

I didn't go out today but spent much of the day riding around in the car and looking. From False Cape I could see a massive number of boats well south and I would guess it was Corolla. Heard nothing on the radio and actually heard unfavorable reports from boats heading back north. I saw one fish caught in a flock of birds about 200 yards off Little Island Pier but that was it. Went to Virginia Beach. Lots of boats in a small area about a mile out but again nothing good was being reported. Went to Cape Henry and again saw boats but very slow day was the report. Went to Chesapeake Beach to check the CBBT but the only birds I saw were sitting on the water. Very few boats there. All in all, I saw nothing to make me want to brave the elements tomorrow. I did hear someone say the problem is the bright moonlit nights. It is causing the fish to do all their feeding after dark. That and the lack of tidal movement. Another said there was just too much bait and the fish weren't hungry. That one I don't believe because in past years I have caught fish that were gorged with baitfish. Rock don't stop feeding just because they are full, kind of like me at Thanksgiving. biggrin.gif

Fished False Cape w/ many boats today. great marks no takers. Got call on cell that it was going off at Coralla. Picked up and ran to the second water tower past the Corolla light. Bite slowed down and we ended up w/ 2 36". The boats that were there earlier, DID have a banner morning. Lots of douple and triple hookups. Long ride from Lynnhaven. There's tomorrow. Coming in, we did see 2 large packs of boats ar Cape Henry. Understand they was bite for a while.

Slow is the word!! Fished on Rockin Robin today and made a call early to go and fish the nearshore wrecks and around the CLT for big bluefish, or Mr. Bluefin. Had good steady action on the bluefish...went 8 for 11( kept 3 and C/R the rest) on fish up to 31 inches...no paper fish. All but one fish was caught on a chartruse stretch 30...you should see the teeth marks in that thing ohmy.gif . Ran back in a little after noon to False Cape and fished with the fleet. Managed one good fish on a Storm umbrella rig, 38" and close to 20#'s. And that was it. Heard the same about an early bite further south, but there's got to be fish up here, or showing up soon. Had better marks around the LIP and north, but nothing.

Trying tomorrow on "Reel Therapy"...don't know if we're going south or north to Cape Henry????

Catch 'em Up!!

PS...Fin Stoked..Nice meeting you and your Dad. Nice boat by the way!! biggrin.gif

From what I heard there was a no bite near Corolla. Bite was 2 to 3 miles north of the NC. border, lower False Cape. Slow bite but 31-36 inch fish. Dont waste your gas. Did hear of a bite near the 4A buoy in the afternoon from a reliable source. Good luck tomorrow and tight lines. smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif
Bait n Switch
We made it out real late and didnt drop lines till 2:20 but we wanted to get a little fishing in. Set up off the tip of Sandbridge pier and trolled south to the border and back. Only had 3 knockdowns and two fish to the boat. Both were keepers around 33 inches but one was about as big around as a basketball and ended up being my dinner. Lots of huge baitballs, lots of marks, hardly any birds, very slow fishing, but from the sound of things maybe our action was pretty hot getting 2 fish in 2 hours. Im hoping it will pick up though, this time last year I had put a lot more fish in the boat.

I thought Saturday was going to be HOT! Headed out of Rudee about 10, 2 miles to a crowd of boats. Put the first two lines in the water and in 2 minutes had the first fish, unfortunately only 26". Red & white stretch 25.

Spent the rest of the day trowling there and up around Cape Henry. NADA! Heard a lot of similar reports. Couldn't make it Sunday, had to keep the wife company Christmas shopping. Glad to here some of you guys did great down around Corolla. Weather permitting we'll join you there next weekend.

By the way, if you believe in the Farmers Almanac, the only decent weekend in until the end of January is New Years. Better save up a little vacation to get out during the week if it's decent.
