Writing an article about offshore tuna fishing and I am trying to recall the name of a program I used to watch every week as a kid. Want to say it had the word "Outdoor" or "Outdoors" as part of its title, but I'm not sure. Could almost swear it had Orson Welles as a narrator (if it wasn't him, it was a BIG guy that also starred in some legal drama during the 1980s in his older age). The program included all types of fishing, and even some hunting, but every other week seemed to focus on offshore fishing. They played marlin fights like an NFL Highlight Film clip - the camera and the narrator unveiled a story about the fight and searched for the deep meaning within - intense stuff that was awesome. Have not seen a fishing show as good since. It aired during the late 70s or early/mid 80s. Anybody remember?

Was the guy's name like...Ben Cannon or Robert Cannon...or something like that. The guy used to host the Macy's Day parade, too I think. He played parts like Perry Mason. Or something Conrad, maybe.

It was William Conrad....

I vaguely remember the show...but may be this will get you on the path.

The show might be "The Wild, Wild World of Animals"?!?!

Thanks Skinny! It WAS William Conrad! Took a lot of looking and advanced searches on Google, but I finally found the name of the show: Outdoor Life.

Here is a link, if you are interested: http://www.jcd4allmedia.com/docs/series_outdoor.html.

That show was awesome ... I stood at attention ever time the intro aired. The closest thing these days is Flip Pallots' Walker's Cay Chronicles. http://www.walkerscay.tv/

Eric,

I've had this article in my head for quite some time and am finally pumping it out. I "publish" my own journal out in the Pac NW, called Salmon, Broads and Beer (www.salmonbroadsandbeer.com). I am trying to put something together worthy of getting published in a magazine other than my own - like Saltwater Sportsman.

Mega Bite, that show was Jeff Danes' "The Tackle Box" on channel 13 after the news on friday Night. Never missed it as a kid. He also did the a daily fishing report on the news. He sure loved surf fishing down at Cape Point. Never missed Bungles the Clown either, on Saturday morning. In black and white. How did I get this old??? biggrin.gif
