On those slow fishing days out on the water; the radio is alive with folks looking for the bite. Sooner or later comes the heart break story " I have a 4 year old with me who really want's to catch a fish" On the out side chance this works I would like to state that on my next outting I am going to take 41 Nuns from a burned down convent, the 2nd grade class from the school of the blind, and 6 convicts I am turning in for the bounty....... they would like to catch a fish before I send them up the river. So let me know where the fish are ok....

Next you will see a Capt holding a Card board sighn saying "Will work for fishing Info" I heard the "friends from out of town" one and "the Young Children one" the other day. Be real just frikken ask me for info but dont try to trick me into it.

I have learned to take the radio chatter with a grain of "salt". Early on I burnt up alot of gas chasing the radio. Now I just try to do my research, get as much info and experiece as I can from all sources and just like it has in the past it will pay off (I hope).
RECOVERY
Its nice to be from out of town and be able to call members of this board and get first hand info. THANKS MEGA BITE!!!! But I also learned to try and find my own
fish plus it keeps me out of the crowds. I also take the radio reports with a grain of salt unless I know the person, but it also depends on how far the bite is away.

just my 2 cents biggrin.gif

Don't you just love it when someone gives a report of fish being caught in a specific location (exactly where you happen to be) and don't see anyone catching fish.........

I have learned to take the radio chatter with a grain of salt too---the cell phone is the ticket though (Thanks again Donna Sea and Beawolf).

You got it! Its nice to have a good selection of people on this board you can get / and give good info to....

The false reports and the con men crack me up I just had to start this post and see how many people think the way I do... See you all on the water BTW if I tell you where they are it is a true report NJ1 can verify this........

Heaven forbid you are a newcomer and try to get some info on the vhf. If you do get some one to answer you back. i have asked for radio checks before and got nothing. Good thing i wasn't sinking. Now that i have a little more experience out there, it;s nice to have some friends out there. but i still try to answer to other guys.

Kind of childish to BS on the radio. I hope I never get that bored.

The other thing I have noticed. If the bite is really on, people are not talking. If nothing is happening - like a lot of days recently - everyone is complaining.
Captain Jack
If you hear me begging on the VHF from the "Miss D", it is true! I am trying to get my boys into some big stripers. The biggest we have caught so far is a 27". In my case it is for the boys!
Mega Bite
How about when someone at the Marina or boat ramp introduces themselves and say we should share information today, then they call you all day untill they start catching then they turn into a ghost. The next day you read how they burned them on some thread they are on.

Or the opposite - I tried to call in folks on a bite last Thursday afternoon 1.8 miles NW of the 4A and after a bunch of jibber-jabber between half a dozen fools, they told me I was "full of s^&t" and they were "already in that location and nothing was happening." So I went back to 13/16 and spent the next hour and a half wearing them out - not another boat in sight.. rolleyes.gif

Capt Jack..

If you see me out there - give me a call on 68 or on my cell: 703-403-7277.
I'll tell you how I have been doing. Most of the rest of the guys on this site will also.
Captain Jack
Thank you very much! I've put you in my cell phone. If, by chance, I get into them, I will call you and let you know what we have found also. My cell is 540-840-2691.

One time we were trolling around the first when the bite really got going, everybody had the limit hooked and not enough hands to crank 'em in. Birds going nuts of course. Instantly, some dude on the radio starts screaming about how the bite just turned on, he says its wide open at the third! We watched several boats pick up and run that way. We laughed with our limit all the way to the flounder hold.

You can only believe half of what you see and none of what you hear.

Today I called out for a radio check 3 times, noone answred then I said ,"...got a double...",someone got on the radio quick wanting to know where I was.I wish they could have heard me laughing the whole time I was reeling those fish in.

Exactly....this topic string hit the nail. But unfortunately they are everywhere, talking that *&!@ when they can't catch a fish. Corolla light airways were terrible Sun early afternoon. Good thing I didn't bring my kids! I just figure turn it down or off, cause it doesn't matter if your fishing the ocean or the middle bay, same stuff. Planning on going south again Thur if good weather. The boss will just have to do without me cool.gif
