Took off on the SouthPort 28'6 today with twin Yamaha 225 4 strokes on the back. with the 10'6 beam that boat has tons of room and is built just for fishing.
We took off out of Lesner and I was a little bummed as the Bay was Flat as glass man...I wanted some seas to check this boat out but had to make the best of it. Kevin (salesman) gave me the helm and I put the throttles down, was doing 48MPH plus in no time. Boat planed up really nicely. I decided to head to Cape Henry as I read there we supposedly some seas out there today. I found a few
3 - 5 swells and gunned the boat over them, got airborne and was bracing for the landing. Smooth as glass, that boat is built to run man and smooth landings !!!
Went looking for some boat wakes to see how it handled some wet conditions. I found some good wakes but the way this hull is designed it always threw the water down and away. I even trimmed it all the way down to plow through the waves and I could not get it wet ! I'm sure in really heavy seas it would get some spray but it's gonna take some work that's for sure.
The rigging on this boat is all fishing, no real family time on this boat. 6 rod holders on the gunnels, all angled just right....rocket launchers on the leaning post and Rod Holders on the back of the transom for long down the middle shots. Two access hatches on the back for pulling fish in..one of each side of course. Big electric head with overboard discharge, sink and shower in the huge head which is located under the center console.....great storage area also.
It's got a fish box on the front that is big enough for the biggest fish man...it's huge. The two fish boxes in the back are extremely large also...I don't see running out of room for fish on this boat. Live well (very large) built under the seats behind the leaning post.
Anyways.....I'm very impressed with the boat, although a bit pricey. Talked about price for the Demo (fully loaded with electronics and fishing paraphanelia) and only 95 hours on the engines, all the bugs pretty much worked out. That price was very reasonable....Boat show prices are also going to be somewhat competitive although on the high end.
Quality boat all the way around....Next Demo is the 31 Sea Vee down in Palm Beach (14th January).
Gotta run...off to the Surfside Inn for the Captains Meeting......Bob....Still Think'n
