My daughter heard me talking about wanting a net to throw and catch bait from the beach. The salesman sold her a Betts 6' net.

Before I open the box and it's mine, does the 6' mean it opens to that diameter?

Thanks

Yes.

Not necessarily! I just bought a 6', what it said on the package, cast net and it was a 6' radius not diameter. Can't remember who made it, got it at OE2.

Thanks, Bill...that's good to know...I just assumed. All I know is that I need the one that has the ring in it that you can throw with one hand. I'd really like to learn how to throw a regular and bigger net.

I saw a guy on ESPN today throw a huge one from the back of a sportfisher like it was nothing...that's what I want to learn to do!!

Don, once you learn, teach me! biggrin.gif
I could use some instruction on those bigger nets.

Well i will impress you all. I throw a 6 foot net and have for years. Only hitch it comes out a 4 foot square shape every time. I have fished all over. Panama costarica bahamas bremuda. and have taken lessons from children throwing 8 and 10 foot nets and they laugh at me. the net comes out square ever time.

it still catches fish just not as many

some things in life are an art. I wish you the best of luck, a cast net has been a humbling exerience for me

Fin Fever is the best Caucasion in town with a 10 foot castnet.

Hey guys!! As long as you are talking nets, I need to get a new one for next season. The one I have is small and doesn't sink fast enough. If I want one for catching bait around Lynnhaven, what size and weight do I need? Any other info. would also be helpful. Thanks.

I found this to help a lot, I am still no expert; however, I can throw my 10 footer now

During the summer and fall there are always a couple guys along the sand right by the Pilot House at Lynnhaven tossing nets. Those guys can chuck the big ones. I have been tempted to go ask for lessons. I am always watching as I pass and trying to copy what they do but I end up with a square or an oval at best. It is way frustrating. In the summer or fall I usually end up standing on my dock holding the net up in front of me like I am getting ready to fold a big sheet. When I see white flashes, I just kind of do the toss-and-drop and end up with enough little spot or peanut bunker to do the trick. I hope nobody has pictures of that.

Those guys at the Pilot House Beach can throw a 12 net when they are Chest deep in the water. That is the big leagues over there.
