I ran out to the fleet off of the Corolla Light Sunday.

I then looked at my GPS and the line drawn on it up and down the coast that I thought was the 3 mile limit must not be so.

I ran inside my line and was almost alone, with everyone outside of me. I would say 90% were east of me.

Maybe it needs calibrated?

I'm sure your GPS line is fine. I was there too and most boats were over the line. Later in the day the CG showed up and started writing tickets.

I heard alot of boats got popped!

I was kind of trying to be funny.

After the CG showed my GPS seemed to be working fine. biggrin.gif

They were sliding down the line today also off Sandbridge heading south.

Why a 3 mile limit anyway? You can only catch 2. Most of the time this can easily be acomplished within 3. Having the 3 means its crowded on the line.

At the awards ceremony for the Mid-Atlantic Rockfish Shootout, Thelma Drake was there and she had said that NOAA was trying to get rid of the 3 mile line. She also said that they were going to have to figure everything out first because a lot of states werent going to want to do it. I wonder if they will make a new line or just get rid of it altogether? It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

It is because they know the big hawgs stay out there most of the time. They hold more eggs , have more protein in their egg cases for healthier Fry.They try to protect that but dont say much about it.

Sounds like a good reason.

I saw a show on saltwater sunday that explained the big fish tend to hold in large schools between 3 and 4 miles off shore during the winter months between feeding runs. I think the theroy is if you hit a major population out there you could in effect eleminate the breaders for an entire season (givin there may be multiple boats fishing the schools).
Here We Go
Here's my therory,

0-3 everybody sees the birds working 500 boats get on a school and poof there gone.

0-50 it's harder to search all that water thus better survival rate.

500 boats catch 4 fish or 20 boats catch thier limit which is better????

Just about all the fish caught this time of year are females, the males are smaller fish and don't reach hawg status.
