NC rules on Striper is alot different from VA. They have a quota system. NC will close the sound and only give 24-36 hours notice. If the season is in the sound and its too rough, stay on the inside of the Bonner Bridge. Head south from the fenders. The water will get about 3 feet deep. After that it will drop off to 8 feet. Go over by the old ferry docks. Only the pilings are still there. This is the green isle slough. It goes from 50 feet to 10 feet of water. On the outgoing tide and slack tide, the stripers will gather around the pilings.
If the season is closed in the sound, stay to the southern edge of the channel, outside the Bonner Bridge. Don't take chances and stay clear of the shoals. Cast big bucktails up on the shoals. If the stripers are there, you'll know it. My best luck has been outgoing tide, about 3:00 in the afternoon till 5:00.
On New Years, the channel was open, we got all the 15# blues you could handle.
North of the channel ocean side of the Bonner Bridge you'll run aground in that 18Ftr.
PS Dont Fish under the Bonner Bridge. That things falling apart. NC is planning to replace it. Hunks fall as trucks hit the expansion joints. A piece about 3 ft wide landed about 6 ft from my boat. We all got soaked from the splash. Except our pants, We did that our selves.
