I just purchased my first boat 8 months ago and have spent most of my time at CALO. I figured the first part of the year I would try fishing around the BBT and out past the cape. Lookin for some info on fishing in that area. I went a few years back but just caught a bunch of big croakers. would like to experience the bay to its fullest. Its only 3 hours for me to reach Lynhaven, which is a lot more economical thatn the 6 to harkers island.
There were some things I was reading earlier like a 3 mile limit. If someone could fill me in on some of the local regs and a little fishin advice it would be greatly appreciated.

The 3 mile limit is the boundary for catching ocean stripers...you have to fish within that 3 mile line. Here's the site for all the fishing regs in VA...VMRC

Most are fishing in the ocean for stripers now as the season is closed in the bay. There is a spring bay season that will open May 16 and run through June 15 and a Trophy season before that May 1-15th...different size regs so look at the site above.

Other fish in the bay now is pretty limited to togs...but most of the tog action I've heard about has been off of offshore/nearshore wrecks. Things will pick up around the CBBT as spring nears and the water temps rise. Summer is a great time to get the full benefits of the bay...flounder, cobia, croaker, spadefish, Spanish, etc. Just keep watching posts on here to get a feel of when fish start moving in. Hope this helps!!

smile.gif thanks for the help. I will be checking in from time to time. I am getting some work done to my boat right now. Planning to bring it to the area mid march. Thinking about bringing the wife and the camper. Does anyone know of a nice and convinient place to set up a camper and fish out of?

There are 2 campgrounds in Va Bch on General Booth Blvd near Rudee Inlet. Puts you in the ocean in minutes or inlet fishing in spring. One is a KOA not sure of the other.
Good luck!

I think there is camping at First Landing and Seashore State Parks on Shore Dr. which would put you near Lynnhaven Boat ramp. This ramp is by Lynnhaven Inlet which is a short ride from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (CBBT).
