animal-smiley-077.gif I'm preparing for Flounder fishing and was wondering if anyone can tell me where Buoy 36A is located at in relation to the highrise and the concrete ships at Kiptopeake. I only got my boat last year and still have alot to learn, but have seen numerous reports and photos of large flounder caught around 36A last year. Looked for 36A last year during one trip over to the Eastern Shore, but was unable to locate the buoy. help.gif

The above is a great source to find things. 36A is up about 15-20 miles north of the CBBT on the bay side, off of the city of Cape Charles. I've often read about it and thought of fishing there, but if you do it would probably be better to drive up to Cape Charles and launch.

36A, Cape Charles Reef, Plantation light, all the same area. Due east of the mouth of the York. Follow the eastern shore ridge six to seven miles up from the concrete ships.

When you go out of Cape Charles turn about 3 degrees left and you're heading right for it. You'll see the red can as the water gets deeper. Good Luck.

I trailered my boat to Kiptopeke in Jan. It cost $17 to cross CBBT each way (single axle trailer) plus $5 to park and launch. CBBT does not give you the discount for returning within 24 hours if you are pulling a trailer.

Also Kiptopeke has a big sink hole in the middle of the right ramp. I dropped a wheel in it. Lucky I had 4x4.

I'll launch on this side from now on.

But there are two awesome free ramps up there. One in cape charles on the bay side, and the other at oyster on the sea side. Those are the places to splash over on the eastern shore.

Knot Too Fast
But, if its a fairly nice day...one would consider boating across. At $40 ($17 each way + $5 to park) you can easily drive your boat across smilie_daumenpos.gif The problem comes when the weather turns bad storm.gif sinking.gif and you are forced to suck it up on the way back. Better catch an aweful lot of flounder or cobia to make it worth your while.
