Allright guys explain the winds to me. Which is best for fishing, and which is unproductive. Which ones churn the water up and which ones lay them down.-Jeff

I have always found the old saying "wind in the west - fishing is best ---wind in the east fishing is the least" to be very true, although it applies more to inshore fishing as opposed to bluewater stuff.

I agree with Grady. West is best, East is least. Northeast tends to rile things up quite a bit inshore. Offshore, southeast can be bad.

I like any direction I can get my boat out.

I never seem to catch much on an east wind. West, Southwest, South are all good for most species. I always heard Northeast, North, or Northwest are bad for inshore fishing because it shakes up the water and causes higher than normal tides which translates into dirty water. Actually, I have had some of my best days speckled trout fishing on a northeast wind because the higher tides produce more clear water on the incoming tide. With a small boat, though, less is best.

I 2nd that Mega. There is an old timer at our dock that always provides great info. He says" winds outta the North, do'nt venture forth, winds outta the South the hook is in their mouth, outta the East they bite the least, and outta the west it's always the best." I do'nt know but it sounds good.
