smilie_help.gif Could someone please help me out? I would like to catch some fiddlers tomorrow for some Sunday fishing with a couple of guys, one who is leaving for a six month deployment in about 3 weeks, trying to get in as much fishing with him as possible before he leaves. I know it has to be at low tide and in a marshy area (mud). I've been to Lynnhaven, Bell Isle Marina on the peninsula, and a couple of other places recently trying for them. My best has been 8 little crabs, didn't even bother keeping them. I'm not looking to rape a spot or tell anyone else about it, but would just rather not pay 3.99/dz. Spent over $300 on fiddlers last year and would like to keep a few dollars this year for gas. If you want to take me there blind folded, I don't mind, or just point me in a specific direction, it would greatly be appreciated. Send me a message or call me if you are willing to help. 575-5485. Would also be willing to help later with some live spot for this year's flounder, if interested.

Thanks for any and all help,

Drew

I'm going to fill you in on my secret bait spot, if you promise not to tell anyone else. biggrin.gif I catch most of my live bait on Lynn River Road in Norfolk, including fiddler crabs and large minnows. It's not far from the intersection of Cape View and Bayview Blvd, if you're familiar with Norfolk, and parallels Pretty Lake for a couple of blocks. At the curve is a guard rail and a 8 ft slope down to the marsh. When the sun warms the mud the fiddlers are all over the place. Live spot and small croaker for flounder I catch at 3rd Bay Street in Ocean View. Follow 3rd Bay Street away from the beach to Pretty Lake. If your feet get wet, back up. Both spots provide easy access to marsh water with good bait populations. Good luck.

Hey M-M, thanks for giving away the farm. Just kidding. I have been frequenting that area and others close by for 35 years. I live in Bayview and have had good success for bait in that area before O.V. became chick. Used to have a lot of access to marsh and creeks, but construction has limited that. I find that the fiddlers come out earlier back in the rivers. My sons friend lives on a section of the Lafayette River off Granby and they are out pretty good there now. Good luck and good fishing.

Last year, I saw some guys hauling lots of fiddler crabs and clams to their truck at the First Landing State Park ramp. They apparently had been wading around the marshy grass just to the right of the ramp. You might consider that at low tide.

Yeah I tried the park but didn't see a whole lot and the ones I did see were very small (like the size of your thumb nail). Thanks everyone I appreciate the info. And I won't give away your secret spot, I promise. smilie_fluester.gif HA HA.

Thanks again,
Drew
