Greetings from Northern VA. Long time, no chat with you guys. Starting to stretch my legs a bit and wet some lines soon. Boat's been outfitted w/ new electronics and new riggers are on the way. Can't wait to buddy up with some of you soon!!!!

While I do most of my fishing offshore as some of you know, I also have a great desire to catch flounder. Looks like they're showing up in numbers along the CBBT. Any chance some of you might share a couple of pointers? I will fish 10-15lb class gear. Maybe post some pics of some rigs?

Any help would be appreciated, I plan to fish this weekend, taking some kids and adults...

Any bait in Lynnhaven creeks yet?

Mike,

Good to hear from ya!! Flounder rig is simple...3 feet of 30# Fluorocarbon tied to a 3way. Off the other end of the 3 way loop about a foot of 20 or less pound line for the sinker. On the business end of the rig use 3/0-4/0 Khale hook with bucktail or small squid skirt and a couple of beads. Add a blade if you'd like. That will get you floundering. I'll try to post a picture.

Here's the rig Mike. I use either red/white or Chartruse bucktails. You want the sinker loop to be made of less pound test so that if you get caught on the bottom that breaks off and you don't loose the business end of the rig.

That is the same rig we use. We catch more on the green than the white. There is a very interesting variation of this rig that is used for very slow trolling in last weeks issue of "The Fisherman Magazine". I think it is issue No. 12 Mid-Atlantic Edition. I think they use it in Delaware Bay, I am going to try this year if I don't get killed fishing at Hatteras this spring.
Mega Bite
That is basically what I also use.Sometimes we skip the 3 way and use an inline sinker it works great with a braid to mono setup.

with 10 to 15 lbs line try this setup. an inline sinker with a split-ring and a 8/o circle hook. most people may think the hook is too large but i still throw back 12 inchers. the circle hook tends to hold a live bait better. it also does not tangle on the way down and is less prone to snaging on structure. work the bait across the bottom bouncing as you go, when the bait stops lift the rod up slowly and crank. dont try to set the hook. depth and current determine the wieght to use. good luck

is there a certain type of sinker to use with this set up? thanks

Same rig I use, with a couple of exceptions. I drop the skirt and beads and add a gold spinner in front of the hook when fishing for the big ones. Run the hook through the lips of a spot, hogfish or a small croaker and you're in the game! I use the skirt/beads when using dead bait such as cut bluefish, croaker or squid strips, which I soak in shedder (crab) oil. Good luck!
PRO-LINE GIL
I recently read an article and the author said that he had more success using gold hooks on his flounder rigs. Have any of you noticed any difference with hook colors? I also saw this rig at Bass Pro called a fluke/flounder drail. It looked like a colored sinker with eyes and a hook connected to it. How does this thing work?
Billybob
Use the drail in place of your sinker and you now have 2 baits , 1 draggin the bottom and your regular rig behind it with more action with the current! fishing4.gif
