Heading down to Hatteras Fri 4/21 for a crack at the Hoo's and Yellowfin, if Don has not caught them all. Will be on "Water Dog" - slip 25 at Teach's-- if anybody wants to coordinate on fishing. Hope that "Victory at Sea" weather has abated and we will not take 10 ft seas over the bow.

Kent,
I just looked at the weather report from NOAA and I'm getting sick of seeing throughout the week N, NE winds 5-10 seas 2-3 or 3-5 and then as soon as Friday rolls around its SW 15-20 or 25-30 and seas BIG!! Because down there 4-6 with SW winds @ 20, really means hold on to yourA$$!! We need something to change this weather/wind patern!!

We tried that a few springs ago, taking "Therapy" down and running out of Fishing Center at OI for nine days. We had nine days where we could fish one,and that was in 30 mph NE.,as a desperation move. Boy, you shoulda seen THEM puppies out in the Stream! And getting in and out of the Inlet was no picnic either! I spent the betterpart of the week hold up in a loaned condo or doing boat work (boy, she sure did sparkle after that!) Loaded up on swinger dolphin our one trip out, and were able to troll inshore coming and going from Lynnhaven, but everything else was the pits!

I agree with Don -- the weekend does not look good and I've got five anglers flying in from the mid-west.
It has also been my experience down there over the years - there is one blow-out after another - just like Adder says. The only reason I took my boat down there is I get so fustrated reading those fishing reports down there and watching the sea surface temps crawl into the 50's up here, while we sit on the dock! That is compounded by the fact that I have a new boat, I spec'd specifically for offshore fishing -- making it all the worse. I figured if I could get three or four trips out of of April and May down there it would be better than sitting on my butt here but financially, it is not for the faint of heart. I hope nobody finds out what this is costing.

I was all set some tuna fishing this weekend! Ready to head to Hatteras, until we checked the weather. Now we expect to be out there with Bob looking for flat ones close to home. Well, so much for my one weekend home this month!

I've heard that May's winds are much more favorable for fishing out of Hatteras so we have that to look forward to. If you do go down and just hang out, go to Ocracoke and have a blast...just remember the LAST FERRY LEAVES AT MIDNIGHT!!!

I seem to remember in May most of the tuna are off of OI, and at the Cigar towards the end of the month. Dolphin and wahoo are the main targets in May out of Hatteras, although some tuna and blue marlin are around. But then again my tequila addled brain may have scrambled the memory engrams.....

In May if you get Blown out you can fish the Inlet for monster Cobia!

I have sat on the dock in May just as much as April down there, southwest 15-25, southwest 15-25 -- same thing every 3 days.
