Hello to all.

I apologize in advance if this area is for fishing reports only, but I did not see a forum area for Eastern Shore chat.

My family and I are moving to the Shore from South Florida and I'm curious about the fishing. I'm a little spoiled down here with the 'Stream a stones throw from shore at times. I run my 17' CC out to catch 'phins, 'hoos and tuna.

Anyway, I'm just looking to meet some people and find out what the fishing is really like. The only fishing I've done up there was off the Badabing out of Long Pointe in VA Bch.

How far offshore do you guys run to find warm water? How about bottom fish, any Grouper that far north? I like to fish inshore for reds and flounder too. How about swords, any darksiders up there?

The good thing about moving to VA is that it gives me a reason to have a bigger boat. I've got a design to build my own 25' W/A around with a diesel jetdrive.

Like to hear from anyone about seasons, species, general chat, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the area. First thing I want to say is that you will need the bigger boat to fish offshore because on average you have to run 30 to 50 miles to get to the fish. The best white marlin fishing in the world is at the Washington Canyon which is around 50 to 60 miles depending on where you leave from. The bluefin and longfin tuna are big hits from Chincoteague to Ocean City. Mako is a good night and day experience. Swordies is a new thing I am going to do this year. When they get caught it is normally from the OC charters doing overnighters at the canyon. I plan to give it a shot this year along with the night time Mako fishing. When it comes to wrecks in these areas, black sea bass is the big hit. I am a freelance mate and I also just fish with people to help with fuel ( angry-smiley-013.gif) and bait. I do not have my own boat so I am always looking for people to fish with when I am not filling in for a charter. If you ever need an extra just get in touch with me on here and I am sure you will never have a problem finding people to go with you on this forum. food-smiley-004.gif

You can get into some of the worlds largest Red Drum in the Barrier Islands. In July you could even get a Tarpon or two back in the Canals and out off the Shoals.
