FISHWATER
could'nt talk the wife into hitting the shoals again. She fought me tooth and nail to stay at the 3rd...... so we did...

We trolled clark spoons once around the island to get some bluefish for floundering. After loading up and picking through the shad we headed to the bend and drifted for flatties. Picked up one all day but it was 24".
Caught a tog on a spec rig tipped with squid. Damn bait stealers, we were after croaker action-smiley-025.gif

Wife hung a nice 26" weakfish away from the island on the bay side so we figured we'd get in closer to jig for some more. Got on the bay side of the 3rd and jigged spoons but the croakers were so thick we could'nt get the bait down.
As the sunset a puppy drum bite started like I hav'nt seen since last year. My wife thought they were croakers with bright purple tails. They were bustin on the baits hard. We used topwater, mini storm baits and bucktails. It only lasted for about 20 min. They were all in the 16"-17" range ofcourse, but they were fun.

We finished off with 3 more gray trout at (2) 18" and one 23". Headed back as the wind picked up.

Heard of one black drum caught over the radio. Surley hope it got better!!!!

Water temp on the way out was 71* but it dropped later on to 64-66.

Nice seeing ya out there Jeff! How'd ya guys do?????

NICE I have never caught a puppy drum anywhere other than in the surf or the shallows around the inlets. Thats strange. I would love to get into something like that. How much did that waekfish weigh?

Dog Day Afternoon
We were out there about the same time from 2 til about 8 worked our way from the 1st to 4th looking for flounder could'nt seem to find any so we caught a few croaker, 2 skates, small blue. What a great day on the water nice ride in and out! listened to the radio every now and then to get some humor. Someone wanted to know where the hot spot was and a quick reply from someone was "You know they are going to tell you there is a tournament going on". Little things like that are amusing sometimes.. Good Luck to All.......... fishing2.gif
TripleThreat
We went out last night just before dark, decided not to go for Drum since we left around 8 and it was supposed to start blowing. Threw gotchas around the 3rd for few minutes and managed 2 croakers, that was a first for me. Then we decided to hit up some of the striped ones as the current started moving. Managed a dozen or so in a little under an hour, all 24 - 29". Then it started blowing pretty good so we headed in. Nothing great, but it sure was nice to get out and fish.
