We trolled clark spoons once around the island to get some bluefish for floundering. After loading up and picking through the shad we headed to the bend and drifted for flatties. Picked up one all day but it was 24".
Caught a tog on a spec rig tipped with squid. Damn bait stealers, we were after croaker
Wife hung a nice 26" weakfish away from the island on the bay side so we figured we'd get in closer to jig for some more. Got on the bay side of the 3rd and jigged spoons but the croakers were so thick we could'nt get the bait down.
As the sunset a puppy drum bite started like I hav'nt seen since last year. My wife thought they were croakers with bright purple tails. They were bustin on the baits hard. We used topwater, mini storm baits and bucktails. It only lasted for about 20 min. They were all in the 16"-17" range ofcourse, but they were fun.
We finished off with 3 more gray trout at (2) 18" and one 23". Headed back as the wind picked up.
Heard of one black drum caught over the radio. Surley hope it got better!!!!
Water temp on the way out was 71* but it dropped later on to 64-66.
Nice seeing ya out there Jeff! How'd ya guys do?????
