We left Lynnhaven around 1200 aboard "2 Ducks" looking for tuna. After a nice ride out to the hot dog we trolled in 65 degree water pulling spreader bars and skirted ballyhoo. We also jigged when we marked fish deep. The hot dog is loaded with large bluefish right now. I lost count on how many we caught. It didn't seem to matter whether it was on the surface or down deep. It would have been nice to catch a tuna, but at least we didn't get skunked. After all, the boat was covered in blood and we enjoyed consistent action. We had hoped that the bluefin would be chasing the bluefish. Hopefully, in a couple of weeks things will improve. Anyhow, the forecast was dead wrong. We had 2 foot seas all day and were able to run hard both coming and going to the fishing grounds. I hope someone out of Rudee scores with some tuna soon. It shouldn't be long now.

Thanks for a good honest report. Somebody had to run out there and try it. Those blues are a good sign though, the bluefin feed on them so they are going to be there soon.

Most of the bluefish were over 5 pounds. There were a few around 10 pounds. Over all, it was a fun day with alot of action. We had three on at one point while trolling with just me and another guy to tend the lines. The fish were considerably larger that the taylor blues that are always found inshore. Diamond jigs, squid spreader bars and marauder style lures were the ticket. Of course, they tore through my ballyhoo. I pulled several hoo heads in without ever seeing the strike. I should have used stinger hooks. I'll be back out there in a couple of weeks. Hopefully some of you will already be reeling in those tuna. Keep me posted.

Good report Buda. Those blufish can eat up pretty good when you fry them nugget size, especially when you're depleated of all last years tuna and dolphin. It's gettin closer now. Glad to hear somebody gave it a shot and had a good day.
