Finally got out - first time since beginning of Jan. Fished around the 3rd Island
for Togs the action was not really fast but it was steady. About half were shorts.
Did keep enought for supper tonight let the rest go to grow up. 3 of the ones we caught were aroud 8 lbs.

Question #1
A few of the ones we caught had holes in their back were tags use to be. Can someone tell me what kind of tags were their.

Question #2
Was not paying attension and drove between the Flags of a gill net. (Bay side of 3rd Island.) I did not hit anything but it scared me for a minute. How deep are these nets set from the surface.

Ray,
Those nets should be on the bottom and then up as high as the net is tall, I'm thinking 6-8 feet, but thats a guess. Running over them shouldn't be a problem unless you're dragging baits, but I'd still be on the look out for them and avoid them if you can.

I was on Mobjack Bay a couple of years ago when the gill nets were so thick you couldn't figure out which two flags belonged to a net. I ran over a cable strung between two flags and put a pretty good ding in the lower unit.
