Can some of you chime in on what's in your plan to run out of VB anytime soon? Looks like the Norfolk has some nice water a little to the North that's been heading South over the past week...
Like others, I'm dieing to fire up the beast and go.

I am bringing my boat back north from Hatteras tommorrow. I have some clean-up and re-fit work to do this weekend (two months of Gulf Stream salt and 6 foot seas)) and then we will begin to try to find some bluefins the next weekend.
I got an unconfirmed report this am (from a reputable source though) that there are bluefins on the Cigar in good numbers now. 44014 still looks very cold to me, but it could be true.. Whether this is true or not I do not know -- but we are going to be finding out forthwith on the Water Dog.

[/quote]I have the Rupp double spreaders. They are excellent. If it will help you to see them rigged - I'm at slip 133 at Long Bay Pointe-Cape Charles Dock--we're coming up from Hatteras by tommorrow night.

Someone else in here was mentioning a lot of bluefish over the Cigar not long ago. Seems to validate your source's report - looks like the bluefin are following.

I wouldn't be surpirsed if there were bluefin close to the Hot Dog or around the Lumps. Budafish reported catching a bunch of big bluefish there last weekend, so the fins can't be far behind.

Spent the night out of Hatteras sunday and fished the north current run and ended up 75 miles east of Va Beach in yellow fins but it was a hit or miss.

The Yellowfin Tuna have been found!! While we are still at the very beginning of the season, the Yellowfin Tuna are already here. The fish are still more than just a hop, skip and a jump, making their apprearance about 70+ miles offshore, but it is a great sign that the tunas are already here. This is a great indicator of a good Spring/Summer and we are all anxiously waiting the good weather to get the boats out again.
The above is from our Virginia Beach Fishing Center.
I hope that this is correct.

Send "Team Bat Outta Hell" aka "Team Still think'n" to do the recon.
As long as the rev-limiters on the Yammies keep working they could get there in no time!!!
Those guys on the Monster shark tourney needed a Southport, it would suck to loose because you're 7 min late.

I will be fishing the cigar this weekend. I'll be sure to post the results as soon as the boat is cleaned off. Hopefully this will be the trip. Does anyone else plan on going to that area this weekend?

Far be it for me to tell you where to fish. but I don't think the Cigar will quite get it done. It looks like you to need to get to at least the 50 fathom curve behind the Cigar and maybe the 100 fathom to give yourself the best chance. Last year this is right where the season started.

And by the latest sat shots, the water appears to be pushing East. The forecast is calling for more W-SW winds that may lend to a further push.
Aside from that, thanks for the responses. It still looks like we're a few more weeks away from the splash...

You could be right, but I am not so sure about it. We were crushing the yellowfin down at Hatteras 3 weeks ago and they have totally scattered. The boats at Oregon Inlet are now doing better on them so I think we are going to have rundown to the 000' southeast of the cigar to find them. Just a 150 miles south of here there were a ton of them so they are somewhere closer to here although obviously a LOT further offshore. I posted this morning on the cigar intell. That boat cap't said he found some warm water where those dolphin were. Last year the 1st week of June, I got 6 yellowfin outside of the cigar in 100 fathoms, in what the satellite shot said was cold water. I think we are a week or maybe two ahead of last year. Next weekend (5/27) I am going down to the 000's I think. We should split our forces and get some boats to go to the Canyon and some to go to the 44 Fathom wreck, like a pickett line, and call each other in if we can find something.

G Man, I'm with you on that plan. I was gonna come down this weekend and give it a shot, however, I'm waiting another week myself. The plan would be to run to the W/B and Cigar...
The cold front we have now is due out of here first of the week and they're callin for 80's mid-late next week.

Bite, Good deal, I suggest we stay in touch next week on the website and come up with a communications plan --then we can split-up down there and work the area thoroghly. If we get into something we can give each other a heads-up. I'll be coming out of Lynnhaven in 38 foot Rampage named "Water Dog'.
Anybody else wants to work in-- feel free. Bob -- we need Team Still Thinkn.

Bob,
Will do on touching base next week. I'll probably post for HO's midweek unless anyone reading this thread wants to shout at me earlier for seats. I'm dying to test the new riggers and eletronics on the deep stuff, not to mention about twenty new bars and assorted meat killers and marlin slayers...
