Saturday morning 0500 out of Rudy started with a light breeze with 2 ft seas. After about 50 miles between our position and Virginia Beach the seas whipped up to roughly 8 feet and we had no choice but to head back to rudy. We did manage to catch 6 large bluefish off the starboard outrigger pulling a spreader bar. I didn't have time to get the other lines out. Every time that bar went in the water another bluefish attacked it. They also tore up a squid daisy chain closer to the hot dog on the way in. One of my crew puked about a dozen times and spent 3/4 of the trip in the berthing. The forecast I saw wasn't calling for seas anywhere near that bad. In the past most of the predicted rough days were mild, but as we all know it can change in an instant. I'm glad that my boat is a pilothouse which kept me dry and safe while the water splashed against the windshield most of the way back. Anyhow, temps aproaching 70 degrees 5 miles from the cigar where I had to turn around might have held Tuna. Hopefully someone will tap into them soon off Virginia Beach. I'll be back out in about two weeks.
