BLACK ADDER

Dr Wright lives in upper Linkhorn Bay, right next to the Marina and Country Club. He has two boats on floating piers, two boats on fixed piers, and one on a lift. Almost every afternoon,a particular wake boarding boat goes through the No Wake Zone behind his house at full tilt. This causes such tremendous waves that it has broken dock lines, knocked his lighthouse off the pier several times, marred the paint on the Mako,as well as breaking the ventilator panels, and generally raised daily havoc. This is by no means the only boat, but is so flagrant as to pull wake boarders through the No Wake Zone,as well as flipping Dr Wright off and jumping wake boarders over the No Wake Buoy. Last night, the fun came to an end. They cursed Dr W in front of me. I kept calm, but I am now looking for the home of the boaters. I would like to speak to some parents about responsibility and like that. Also, I want to prevent their getting into REAL trouble if they do something like that in front of a hot head like Bill Cook, who keeps his boat on the same pier. Oh,dear.
Now ,heres how you can help: Looking for the home of a tow boat in dark blue and white, rigged with a towing tower,I/O drive, with a big design on the side. I think this boat is kept on a lift.
And,no,calling the police multiple times has not helped.

I have found that when stern warnings about no wake zones fail.... Taking a hand full of 4 0z lead and throwing it at their heads works.

Yeah, but that is what I am trying not to have happen. I think if they know we know where they live, that will de-fuse the situation. No revenge, just a "DETERENT" strategy.

SO BE ON THE LOOKOUT!

Next time they go by write down the registration numbers on the hull and give the VMRC marine patrol a call. They will turn those numbers into an address and handle the situation for you.
There's a boat that fits that description kept at Marinia Shores.

As a thirty year veteran of VB City Public Schools I have to agree that it is probably better to let the authorities handle the problem. My experience is that parents, when confronted, will more often than not become defensive and side with their children. They will probably blame Dr. Wright for putting a dock in the way of their children's wake. Just a thought, you might try making a video of the next incident. That's almost as good as DNA evidence. Although, I once showed a parent a video of their child misbehaving on the school bus. Her response was that cameras lie. That's why Jack Daniels and I retired as soon as we could.

The sad part is, they probably drive cars the same way. I like the idea of video taping the numerous infractions and the effects of the wakes on the moored boats. Dr. W I'm sure has means to distribute the footage. If there is any indication that alcohol or "water rage" is present, the Authorities will react. I hope it ends before someone gets hurt.

Question: Were we like that as teenagers?
Answer: Yes.
Nevertheless, thanks for the good advice. There is pretty much a lull in the situation right now,so...We are letting sleeping dogs, you know, sleep...

I hope their parents take away their boating privileges for the whole summer (at least that's what I would do, in addition to some non-PC punishment). Alas, I fear that fishist is probably right - my Johnny couldn't possibly do that!
I hope all goes well - let us know how it turns out.

Good luck! Its a bad situation which could end well if adult supervision does its part. Someday (if they don't already) they may have boats of their own that they don't want damaged. At more importantly, people get hurt or killed doing dumb shit. Ya gotta stay lucky a long time not to have it catch up to you somehow.
Hope it works out for everyone...except the culprits.

Good luck, Adder. I hope, for their children's sake, the parents take this seriously and act in a responsible manner. Personally, I think their profanity and disrespect to you and Dr. Wright are as serious as their antics on the water. I believe the degree to which we abdicate our responsibility to guide our children in the right direction is the degree to which we fail them as parents. Both my kids turned out pretty well but it wasn't because of luck and they have the scars to prove it.

I've been working with other peoples children for the last 18 years. Hate to sound like an old timer always telling tall tales but if the shoe fits.....
Times have a changed for a number of reasons but the end result is the state of our children/ nation.
No matter the gender, socio-economic status or ethnicity kids today are dangerous and in danger. These are not the days of old when you can lay them over your knee and then tell their parents why. The kids today will kick your butt or at least try. The parents will accuse you of being the antagonist.
What is scary is look at the lack of moral or ethics that permeates through out or society. The music ( rock or rap) the movies and the culture all stink of self indulgence, no concern for the future and no respect for others or the law.
If we are still here in 20 years, other countries will be kicking our assess worse than they are already. Look at the academic performance of our kids compared to other countries, hell look at the physical condition of our kids compared to others. The kids in the gifted programs here are learning things that were expected of us 20 or 30 years ago. I know this because I am a social worker who specialized in adolescent behavior and my wife is a special education teacher for gifted kids. No we don't make tons of money but I can say I we are ground zero for problems that are not truly being addressed in any meaningful way.
As far as the post,,,,,, Get law enforcement involved. I wouldn't bother with the parents because in most cases rich or poor, black or white the Parents are part of the problem. Sorry if I offended anyone but we all think our little Johnny or Jane, Tyrone or Temeka are angels and everyone is out to get them regardless of the evidence presented.
Call the law and press charges if you can. At least get it documented so if they go to Court with someone else they can't play it off like is a one time thing that has never happened before. Hold them accountable as children so they will be responsible as adults.
So far my kids who will be most scared up kids in college. Matter of fact the running joke in our home is "Dad is a socialist worker". Lets me know I'm doing something right, I tell them I'm not here to be your friend but I can be a great dad.
Enjoy your fishing this weekend Gentlemen of the Board and be safe.
Sorry for the soap box sermone.

I agree with most of what you said. There are some of us, however, who still teach our children to respect their elders, especially teachers. My kids know that if we get a complaint from school, we aren't going to offer them any quarter or go running to the principal--they're prob. gonna get it much worse from us than from any teacher. Our children are the future of our society and if we don't teach them respect, it doesn't bode well for our future. Thank you, Fish Tales, and your wife, for your service to our children. My dad is a college professor, and when he semi-retired, he began teaching in Norfolk public High Schools (I won't mention which one)--he was amazed at the lack of respect, lack of motivation, and general lewdness of the majority of students....sad state of affairs, but if mine are doing it, I'm not averse to a little corporal punishment.
That all being said, since this is a fishing board, what better way to bond with your children and teach them respect for nature, other boaters and fisherman, and protection of our resources, than to take them fishing??? I can't think of many.

I totally agree with you NJ1. I learned a great deal about fishing and life in general from my dad in the brief time we fished together. He died way too young and I still sponsor a Tidewater Anglers Club trophy in his name awarded to the outstanding junior angler of the year. I was eighteen when I awarded it for the first time and told the audience that there is no greater thrill for a kid than to be his or her dad's fishing partner.

With fishist and the rest. I grew up fishing with my dad on the Great Lakes in MI (Salmon and Walleye). Now, My son (7) and daughter (5) are on the water with me every time I go. When dad comes out, I give him saltwater payback trips every time (not that I mind...dad points plus good son points).

Although there are some bad apples,I have faith in our youth, they are more athletic & smarter than we ever were. The old days of spanking and beating are and should be over.Hitting a child doesent teach them anything and ruins their self esteem. Its an age old arguement every older generation says that they are morally better and have since the dawn of time.Just my 02.

I have never been able to go fishing without at least 1 of my kids, most of the time its 2 or 3 of them. I have 3 daughters and 1 son. They were all sitting up on a pier, beach or bank while they were still in strollers before eating hard food. (No lie, got the pics) I should have taken stock in micky mouse fishing poles. Now they are teenagers except for my ten year old and she whipped everybody on our last trip out.
Damn those Bass pro shop commercials where the kids catches their first perch. Croakers pull and fight 50x harder.
Anyway all of my kids are in advance/accelerated class and college bound " God Willing".
For those of you who have noticed mine, my kids get their spelling skills from their mother. If it weren't for spell checker I never get this masters out of the way, especially on a laptop which has it own issues when doing long stints of composition.
ONe of the things I like about this board is there are obviously family guys ( and girls) in all stages of raising a family and everyone appears to be proud of it. From what I hear its one of the nicer boards, but I haven’t shopped around the others to know the difference.
Only one my clients in the last 15 years had a Dad around. NO EXCEPTIONS. I ask God frequently let me be around long enough to get my kids off to a good start.
NJ1 do I alot of work in Norfolk schools, very scary. Ironically I just moved my daughter from Kecoughtan to Hampton because of a notable academic program they have and the environment is more conducive to learning, at least for that program, all school have their pitfalls. i know your Dad had to be freaked out to go from kids struggling and trying to stay in college to kids who don't care one way or another.
Jsuperjeff you need help, I do substance abuse and anger management classes on tues and thurs. I would be willing to do individual therapy aboard your boat at a location of your choosing.
