THEY BLEW IT AGAIN TODAY! Checked the marine forecast last night.. Said it was gonna be nice, 1-2wave, 5-10wind. . I was so amped after reading yesterdays reports I just had to go. Woke up at 5am for some cobia action.. Got blasted with waves all the way to the rock.. Taking them over the bow.. Rogues. Finally got there, anchored up. Not very fun at all. Wind was blowing the boat one way, current was taking lines the other, it was a mess. Chumbag busted off the back after one huge wave came through... Decided to wrap it up 10 minutes into it. Damn that weather guy! Ill put in some more time on a day when I can enjoy it. Does anyone know if it was rough yesterday when that tourney was going on and all those Big Cobia were caught?. It was blowing pretty steady and I believe there was a small craft advisory.. I couldnt believe when I read that it was a record producing cobia day! Wonder what today will produce cause there were quite a few boats out there. fishing4.gif

Seems like the best thing to do is ignore the weather and decide on what to do when you get to the ramp. We are going to make the 1 1/2-2 hr haul in the morning down yalls way. The weather report looks promising but.........you know how that goes. Looking at the Lesner bridge Cam now and the water looks flat at the dredger.

when you see a NW wind like that remember the wind is coming right down the gut of the bay and will carry some heavy seas. Does'nt take much. I've heard a NW wind referred to as the "Great deceiver".

I tried to use the weather report yesterday also. We were going to the harborfest firworks, but wated to get some fishing in on the way.

The marine forecast when i left at 2pm was the same forecast from 9:20am. I would think if they would at least update the darn thing, if it looks like it is totally wrong. The 9am report said deminishing winds all day. I think it stayed the same all day until late evening.

It was a solid 4ft in the bay going from little creek to the elizebeth river. It was 2 ft on Hampton bar.

peejcj8,
I know what you mean but I have to admit it was a much smoother ride back to LCRK. I think I made it back in half the time.

Was going to go out Saturday. Pulled up to the Cove marina on Little Creek that morning and asked someone who was cleaning their boat about the bay. He said 6 foot at the mouth of the bay. We went on and launched at the Lesner Bridge, and cruised around Lynnhaven. Looking under the bridge, the bay looked NASTY!!! blink.gif

I'm glad we didn't try the bay, it was choppy on Broad Bay. Anyway, had a good day with the family at the Narrows, only bad thing is that I was a little tardy with the sunscreen. OUCH!!!

Coming back, I wanted to tie up and eat at Chick's, but the wife didn't think we were dressed appropriately (shorts and t-shirts, and been out on the boat all afternoon). Anybody eaten there? How good is the food?

Yeah I think they were calling for 2 footers in the Bay on Saturday if I remember correctly. I fished around the Hampton Bar area and I think there were 2 footers in my livewell. Not really but it was choppy for that area.

They were off again today. We had our monthly Baymouth sampling for work and it was blowing a nice steady 20 from the NE. Forecast as of 0600 this morning was calling for 5-10, not even close.

I've eaten at Chicks a couple of times. Pretty casual and good food. You would of fit right in with t-shirts and shorts.

i use to be the chef there. Very casual, stiff drinks, hot waitresses, good food. relaxed tie up procedure. Chicks is awesome !! Try the treble hook !!!!
