Are you talking world record for 50lb class.......

Yes, now looking at the website I found it on. It does say world record for 50# class

I guess they must have it broken down into classes but 50 # Class is on the heavy side for a Cobia. That would be a 5/o Reel or an international 50 Reel. The job could be done on much lighter stuff.A TLD 20 is plenty for any Cobia. That is still a nice fish even on a 50# class setup.

They deffinetly have overkill on their tackle. I took a charter from OI over the winter for stripers. I can't remember what type of reel it was, but the line was 80lb test. I caught a 40lb striper and it was about the equivalent of catching a 2# coaker on an ultra-light.

He was using 30 pound. I was looking at the record book and there are some big cobia caught on even lighter stuff....98# cobia on 10# line, 128# cobia on 16# line, 125# cobia on 20# line.
Great fish and congrats on the pending IGFA line class record!!!

Yes 116 is a hog .I read some where that his eyes were 11 inches apart. That is a large head.I bet the 98 lber on 10 # test took 12 hours to get into the boat.
