I believe so. I have heard they are very good. The fillets look like a Taug. I am going to try for some next week. My arm is ready. 16-24 oz of lead and 250 ft down.

I think its a little deeper than 250 feet. Rock piles deep offshore, the deeper the better I have heard. The guys down south out of O.I. do real well this time of year. They use it as a back up catch if the tuna bite is slow. Good luck and keep us posted on your trip.
Congrat to the angler, that is a whopper

The fleet really just started fishing for them. 2years ago no one fished for'm. Now there are charters just for'm.

I guess its a product of the deep dropping for flounder and sea bass.

Other than a pound or two of lead what do they use to catch these? Hook size/ bait? Tactics? Looks like it might be worth a try if the bite off on Sun. BTW, Nice fish!

We used 28 oz. in 300 ft. on Sat. and slayed em'. You may need up to 40 oz. depending on the current . I had 56 0z. on the planer rod with 4 hooks hoping for that Grouper to take a bite. Our biggest tile was around 13 lbs but there is some bigguns down there! Have fun!!!!!

I know you guys dont want to give up all your tips and places but when you fish for them, is there anything on the bottom you should look for such as drop-offs or structure? Sounds like it would be fun to try when the tuna bite is off.

Read over on Tidalfish that another possible world record tilefish, 17lbs 7oz. was caught over the weekend by Jen Manus. Congrats! Man those records fall fast.
