Started where we left off yesterday on the south wall of the Canyon aboard Rockin Robin. Beautiful slick calm condtions...almost too calm I think. Nothing at the Canyon. Came intowards Waynes World and got into a mess of bluefish. After having 7 on at once, I was rerigging and hear a spalsh on the swuid teaser that is dangling from the rigger. I'm thinking it was another bluefish and then the vister comes back and its a tuna. he hits at the teaser again and then I drp back a bait. He took it, but by the time I slid the drag forward he was off. that was the onyl tuna we saw all day. Did manage one bailer dolphin. We'll get 'em next time!!!

Awesome day out there...little slow fishing though.....

1. 40# Bluefin in the boat...
2. My Guamanian in-laws with me so we load up on Bluefish.
3. Canyon was dead to me....
4. Waynes world...Marlin in the spread...big sharks...couple of dolphin...No Yellowfin
5. Back at Fingers.....Big ass Bluefin....80# line gets wrapped around the release clip....Snap !!!!!!!!!!!!.......Lost my GET Reel Lure Green Daisey Chain....Don says it has the extended warrantly though !!..lol....
6. More Blue fish for the in-laws...they're still down at my dock cleaning fish, eating Bluefin Sushi and DRINKING...imagine that....
7. What the hell happened to M.T. Pockets today ?..anybody know the whole story ?....
8. Great seeing everybody at the dock early this morning and this afternoon...getting to be quite the regular crowd !....
9. Gotta go drink now....Bob

Donna Sea
Slow day for the Donna Sea as well. Spent most of the day at the canyon - one nice Dolphin early and two nice Yellowfin - one at 36 Lbs. Picked up the bigger tuna at the Fingers on the way in.

Man is my boat dirty - I love it when it gets like that. Blood everywhere. Put it away tonight, going to get at it first thing in the AM.

What a great day to be on the water - but as Don said, almost too nice. I believe when the weather is really nice like that the fishing is usually off.

Getting out of Rudy this morning was like trying to get through the downtown tunnel during rush hour. I think I'm going to start going earlier.

Got my grandson visiting so I'm finished for the weekend. Planning for next saturday though.

I tried to hail you on the way out, I think we got our wires crossed.

Good job on the YFT, I did not hear of too many of those today.

This was the best catch of the day!!!

Funny

I was telling stories about women and Andrew started telling stories about turkey hunting. Ive not hunted many turkeys (my grandfather always killed a couple for our Christmas and thanksgiving meals), but I have been known to drink some of that "kicking chicken".

Brown bag, what did you guys drink it on the street in Norfolk? We did not have any adult beverages onboard, but I did smoke one of Andrews black and milds on the ride in. I could barely speak last night.

THE UN OFFICIAL OFFICIAL MT POCKETS SAGA.

I put the pefect trip together. I had Jimmy Stephens and Greg Middleton on board. Greg and Jimmy have 10 times my fishing knowledge so my job was to drive and crank. Left Richmond at 0100 and untied from the dock at 0400 with more baits and rod than you would expect on a 24 ft boat. We were ready for anything.

We ran out of back river. or should i say Black River as even with the Q beam i couldnt see squat.. Made it out to the bay and navagated the sea of crab pots. Boat ran prefectly. It only has 80 Hours on her since the new motor was put in.

We got to the tunnel between the 3rd and 4th enter the waypoint for the finger at the chart mark of 65/65 and bump the throttles up to 25knots.

about 12 miles from lines in the motor stumbled once kinda got my attention then it stumble again. That time the crew woke up. I did a quick 180 turn and put us on the reverse course. I then went to the motor box to take a look.

the bildge is filling up with water. i sisnt see from where, Albe squat in the water and underway they are still ass heavy. the bilge pump has an in line fuse it poped so i jammed a peice if riggin wire in there and she started humming.

The started motor was in the water. i got it pumped out, but the bildge pump is infront to the bottom pulley on the motor and at cruse the starter is getting wet while even though the pump is dry so we slowed. letting the water move fprward.

The 32 express albe GOT FISH heard and saw the problem and folloed us for about 6 to 10 miles back until we assure dthem that we had the water problem under controll.

Thanks guys and i hope Karma smiled on you at the fishing grounds.

I got the USCG to call Sea Tow. The Raw water pump was leaking pretty heavy. and there was not a lot I could do as i lookes like the internal seals were shot.

SO I burried the trim tabs put the bow straight down and ran the bildge pump and set a course for fisherman Island.

The motor started to over heat so we would shut it down and continue to run 9 miles due east of fisheman island i dropped anchor and waited for sea tow.

we were there about 30 to 45 min when the pretty yellow Mako woth twin 250 yamys came screaming up. Thank god for Ed. We made under toe between 16 and 20Kts. we really picked up once i remebered that the tabs were town and raised them.

any way we got handed off to capt alex of sea tow to run us to the dock.

All in all that could have been a lot worse. Calm weather and an experienced crew made of less stress than i could have been.

So i am boatless right now. I cant ge the Guy who did all the work to call me back and i have put capt fatbeard on notice.

I know that the heads have gotta be cooked and the starter is shot, and i think that i need a new raw water pump as the "new" one that is on there is "tore up from the floor up".

Thanks for all the call and help out there. I will roll up my sleeves and fix it my self. Then i know that it will be better than new.
Here We Go
Sorry to hear about your misfortune MT. I'm glad you made it back safe. When I changed out my RWP I kept the used parts just for an istance such as yours. I don't know if you have the same pump on your Albe as mine but it is relitive easy to work on, 4 screws a gasket and impellor is all there is.
peejcj8
Sorry to hear that George. Hopefully the heads are OK, and you only need only a starter rebuild and a pick up pump to be back in business.

How can that pump leak so bad?

i think the motor is cooked i hit 220' several times. The pump has a front gasket and a rear seal. the rear is a ceramic style seal and it crapped out. I paid a reputable marine mehanic to to install a new motor so i didn't keep the parts,

The real problem was that the starter was wet, but the bildge pump is so far fprward that it had pumped dry but there was still 12 inches of water at the transom.

I am putting a Rule 600 square bildge pump at the transom, i hope that i can secure a float switch.

Any way looks like a new motor, at the prevoius installers expense.

time to look at the 32 albe"s?

WOW! It's good to hear he is honoring and backing up his work. I just put a new engine in last year (Jasper Re-man) that has started leaking oil (quart every 10 hrs). The knucleheads that put it in gave it a once over and said they saw no leak. Yesterday's trip to the cbbt says otherwise (when I pulled the plug, I collected more oil and water into the bucket that is accompanying the boat the next time I take it in). Maybe the boat will set at their shop while I am back in MI in a few weeks. Either way, I am still under warranty and if they don't fix it the next time, I will dump a bucket of oil water mixture on the front steps of their showroom every time I go out mad.gif and turn their names over to Capn' Fatbeard for a good ole fashion keelhauling angry-smiley-013.gif. Capn' Fatbeard, is the price still a cold 12 pack? mad.gif angry-smiley-013.gif

Thank You very much for the generous offer. I do have to get My rig form Hampton to Irvington Va. I think Saturday is the day to do it.

Can I Get a Rain Check. I may be a Ho for a while and need a ride.

George

You must have a different pump than I have. Mine leaked last summer, but only a drop or 2. I replaced it with a new one.

220 is pretty hot, but I still would not be surprised if your engine is still sound.
