Fished the Cigar at 26950 line on Monday. Arrived with Rudee charter fleet. as the day before the was a decent yellowfin bite reported here. We found no tuna but heavy grass instead. We struggled to catch 1 chicken dolphin but could not fish the area because of the grass. Trolled out to 50 fathoms and back with no hits. After re-encountering the grass field, we gave up and moved to the Fingers.
We had some modest success there--2 yellowfin tunas 35 to 40 each and a couple of dolphin. We caught a couple of bluefish, but surprising they were not a problem. Late in the afternoon, I heard several boats getting yellowfin in 40 fathoms but it was too late for us to repostion. Had a great crew -several first time tuna fisherman who broke through with there first yellow fins. Note-- nearly every fish on blue and white--sea witches and Islanders. Both with med. ballyhoo.

Thanks for the report. We had a similar problem at the hotdog Saturday, too much grass. There were heavy grass lines, but also grass everywhere. We could never get our baits out.
Our success was also on blue and white outside the tip of the 21 finger.

Kent,

Thanks again for putting me on my first YFT. Despite the grassy conditions yesterday, Water Dog put us on the fish and it was a blast. What Kent left out of his post is that he decided to stay a little longer than the other boats out there and as we were beginning to pull the lines in, we had another YFT hit the bait and we boated the fish. Great call. What a great day on a great boat with a wonderful crew!

Great job Kent....Nobody could find the YFT yesterday...we saw a total of like 3 boats offshore....Backlash who hooked a Blue Marlin when he trolled right through the same area just left...the Blue Marlin hit two of his spreader bars..imagine that....Blue-fin were on the 10Fathom hump throughout the day but nothing bigger than about 40" or so.....so much grass floating around it was pretty hard to keep lines in the water....Bob
