Reel Hunter
Started off my vacation week by fishing the Long Bay Pointe Cobia tournament. We caught 9 cobia 30#-48.5#, good enough for 2nd place. Then it was off to Pirates Cove. We didnt get out till Thurs, and the predicted 5-10 was 15-20. We took a beating, but landed a 111# big eye. He hit the 15in green bar on the flatline with an islander, and hr later he hit the deck. Friday we left the dock at 11am for a amberjack trip to the tower. Well we found a nice weedline 18mi out. I had leftover ballyhoo and we began trolling. We caught 9 gaffers, two 25# kings, and two huge cudas. Saturday, I went out prospecting to some warm water to the south. It paid off as we were the only boat in sight most of the day. Scattered grass, 84 degree water, fished 200-1000 fathoms, yellowfin airing out everywhere. We began the day catching 20-30# dolphin. While gaffing a nice 30# the flatline gets hit. With gaff in hand I dropped it back, gaffed the fish, engaged the reel, only to have a white airing out. Backed down hard for a quick release. Few dolphin and a tuna later, two sails come in. One to small to eat our baits, the other was on for another quick release. Saturdays tally 10 big gaffers, 1 yellowfin, 1 white, and 1 sail. Great week with the crew. We are fine tuned and ready for the tuna tourney next week. Will post pics later. Good luck to all.
