Hundreds of Hampton Roads children are expected
July 14, 2006
Hundreds of Hampton Roads children are expected for this year's fishing clinic in Newport News.
The sixth annual event will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon. Kiwanis clubs from Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Smithfield and Franklin bring families to the James River Fishing Pier to promote outdoor recreation and educate children about their local waterways.
Children will receive a fishing rod, and other gifts, free of charge from the Kiwanis Division 21, said Darlene Brown.
The U.S. Coast Guard and the Virginia Marine Resources Commission will give lessons on how to fish safely. More than 325 children attended last year.
