BLACK ADDER
Fished in marginal weather (that went downhill) on Thursday with that local cobia guru , Captain Steve Wray. After about two hours anchored up on the shoals without a bite, the wind increased again and parted our anchor rope. (Your's truly only carries one danforth anchor on "Therapy".This saved us from further concusions and brain damage from the seas) After taking stock of the situation ,and before Dr Wright strangled the Old Black Adder, a consensus was reached and we ran to the ocean front, where it was right flatish. (West wind, you know) Caught a couple dozen bluefish and six very pretty spanish mackerel.Ended the days festivities at about two o'clock.
By the way, if the only other people we saw all day fishing, are still alive, I trust they will invest in a larger boat,a reliable weather radio, or sign their life insurance over to :The Black Adder c/o this web site. There were three fellows in a bass boat trying to anchor up on the shoals. Of course, I could have mis-read their intentions and this was an actual suicide attempt ,which it appeared to us that it had every chance of success. blink.gif action-smiley-034.gif blink.gif

I stopped by lbp yesterday and shop guy said yall had lost your anchor and moved on around the beach. If this weather will cooperate I am gonna try to get out.

I saw you guys come out and anchor. I was the boat North of you. I was in my Panga. I saw that boat try to anchor and finnally give up. It looked like you all were getting bounced around a little. The sharks ate us up but did manage one cobia. After you left it started getting real snotty so we heaed over to the 2nd island and picked up a few sheeps with the biggest going 10lbs 12 oz.

Outstanding work on the sheepies! We were fishing for the spanish in 15'to say 30' of water, due east of the point at Fort Story, and stayed within a half mile of that area. Could see no visible rip, but we were in that area. Varied speed (4-7 k) to try to keep in fish.

Im back in town, now if I can shake this Tropical Virus I will be able to pick up my boat from the shop.I brought back a 3rd world virus from hell. Will post some cool photos when I feel better,I Dove this trip no fishing, but I did find a Cannon from a day that has gone by.

Ouch! We fished yesterday, starting at Yancy then heading to a wreck down False Cape way, back to Cape Henry Wreck. SLOW day. Water inversion in effect down past Sandbridge, with LOW water temps. Got back into Long Bay Point just before first round of thunderstorms...
Now comes the interesting part...After dropping my crew off at LBP, was taking "Therapy" back up to Dr Wright's house. When passing under the new Great Neck Bridge, lightning struck the bridge! In all the fireworks and sound waves, I thought the boat had been hit!!! I started checking systems as soon as my heart started beating again, and some stuff, like the radar and GPS had to be re-booted, so there was some collateral electricity about. I didn't feel a thing, like hair standing up (course I haven't got much anyway). You can bet I didn't move from under the good old bridge until the first round of stuff moved off some.Hovering practice, you know. Listening to the radio,it sounded like some of the chaps were getting smacked hard out in the ocean. storm.gif

WHOA! That didn't cause your bowels to reboot, did it? Glad you are OK.

Well and gentlemanly put. When the good old National Weather Service gives good advice, like "go to a safe harbor" or "remain below decks until the storms are past", some of us can't. Perhaps "FRUIT OF THE LOOM" or even "PAMPERS" should develop a special Captain's Pants for such an emergency (disposable,of course.) laughing-smiley-011.gif storm.gif laughing-smiley-011.gif

what were the temps down past sandbridge? i was thinking of heading that way tomorrow, but maybe not anymore.
BLACK ADDER
Saltwater temp gauge busted on "Therapy", but water in live bait well was cold..A good place to check is to call Sandbridge (ie Little Island Pier) , phone number escapes me at the moment, but they take a daily water temp there. If I had their number on the boat I would have called and saved us a trip.SW winds this time of year will allow that upwelling phenomena that displaces hot water with cold water.A couple days of something easterly will fix that up.but of course that may not happen until, say ,September! animal-smiley-043.gif Note the BLUE fish!

I use a pool thermom as a back up havent needed it for a while but it came in handy when my Garmin went out.
