My buddy and I went out Sunday for Flounder fishing, got to the second island about 7:30 and there are about 7 to 10 boats there already. We caught our limit in two hours with the largest 23” and only one throw back and lost one close to the boat that is at least 30” plus. All caught with menhaden, they are about 8” to 9” long (that’s the only bait that we could found).

Great job! Were you Ocean or bayside...or did you drift the channel edge?

Brett, we were at the bayside, drift from the rock edge toward the bridge. Away from the channel.

Thanks Sundown for the report. I was out there (1st and 2nd) on Sunday late morning/afternoon for the ebb tide and it was slow. Only managed throwbacks. The current was ripping, most drifts were around 2 knots. Used cut tube squid. Not sure where you mean "dirft from the rock edge toward the bridge" Were you drifting under the bridge? If you were there in the morning, I guess you had the flood tide so were drifting up the bay. Did you start at the rock edge of the 2nd island bayside and drift west?

I usually do good drifting the north side of Thimble Shoals Channel but the drift was two fast on Sunday, 2.4 knots.

Pete,

The rock edge and the bridge that I am referring to is the section where the traffice coming out from the tunnel on to the road "I called bridge". The boat was drfting away from the bridge. We were never under the bridge.

Thanks. I fished there before but never had much luck. Will have to try it again.

There is a good hole there just north of the second Island, especially right around the second to fifth? set of pilings on the ocean side too. It is also a good spot for Stripers in the late fall/winter.
