We didn't really get into this event because of other things happening. But while fishing on Thursday in the VBBT we had one of Don's Big Poppa's rigged up with a large Spanish Mackeral trailing. We had a monster and I do mean a Monster commit suicide on the Get Reel Lure Big Poppa, this Blue Marlin left a hole in the water the size of a MAC Truck.

Something happened with the tackle as the 400# leader was sheared (we believe at the crimp point) but the point is, Big Poppa is a Blue Marlin Magnet....

Get you one and get a BLUE !.....Bob

What a heartbreaker. Sorry you lost the big one. Perhaps you had a piece of garbage in the crimp, or a rough edge on the crimp itself. Either way, thanks for the heads up on the Get Reel Lures. I've got to have a Big Poppa now.

Sorry to hear that, gotta check for just a tiny piece of banana peel in those crimps.

To add to this, Neal had re-rigged the lure tying in a big mackeral the night before...yes, he may have had a beer or two to wash out the fish taste you get by kissing each prepared bait. It was that terminal crimp that failed. A recent study indicated that 9 out of 10 professional mates from top Sportfishing Tournament boats, end up with crimps either too loose, or too tight over 60% of the time. One slips and fails, the other breaks and fails.
While it may be possible, I have never had a Get Reel rigged lure fail at the crimp.
Tight lines.

I looked at the line when Neal brought it back and it looked like it was cut. Could have been the way the fish hit the bait that it got the crimp just the right way to pop the line. No worries though...we'll get him!!

2% of the fisherman catch 90% of the fish.I guess that leaves us with 98% of us trying to catch 10% of the left overs. We were fishing beside the Pelican Sunday for a while so I know we were in the good water.
Marlin Maniac
Talked to Arch on the Pelican and he said he must have been in good water because he was fishing next to Mega Bite. And personally I think 96% of fishermen listen to about 32% of the BS about 12% of the time.

IN my humble opinion, everybody on this thread is 100% full of BS cool_smiley.gif
