My brother & I fished the Fingers on Monday. Not exactly sure where we were but we started fishing at 40 miles E out of Rudee in 20-25 fathoms. Lines in around 8:45 am.

Water was blue (I heard it was green at the Cigar) got 2 double hook-ups on decent mahi trolling by some boards. Mahi hit nakeds, Get Reel sea witches and skirted cedar plugs.

No more flotsom so we headed deeper. Water went from 74 to 70 degrees as we trolled deeper (50 miles off Rudee in 25-30 fathoms). We picked up a small Jack on the Bird / Green Machine shotgun. Then dead for an hour. Then picked up single Albie's on GM for the rest of the day (4 or 5 total). Good pullage and kept us on our toes while hoping for a YFT. No YFT showed.

We fished alone for most of the day and as we trolled deeper ran into a scattered group of maybe 10 boats. Our boat "Split Shot" ran great and handeled the seas like a pro. We had a good time and we have a lot to learn. Second time offshore (on our boat ) and lots of things to figure out yet but having fun doing it. biggrin.gif

Thanks Don. Boat did about 1.8 Miles Per Gallon. She's NOT an efficient vessel. I have posted on THT (The Hull Truth) and heard from several other boat owners with similar boats getting the same mileage. Some guys with brand new four stokes and HPDI 2 strokes are only getting 2- 2.3 MPG. The boat has such a deep-vee that it just pushes a lot of water even when up on plane BUT that's why the ride is nice and we could go out on a day like yesterday safely and at a decent speed. We comfortably ran 20 kts out and came in 22-24 kts. We could have gone faster but we are trying to save gas and not launch or bounce too much. We actually had to pass a big sportfisher on the way out cuz it was going too slow cool_smiley.gif but we also realized he was probably reading the paper and enjoying a cup of coffee while we were "blowing in the wind". HA~

Around 2 nmpg is what i get on slick calm. 1.8 in choppy seas.
24ft Albemarle carbed 5.7 duoprop.
Split Shot - Mike
The fun part was being told at the dock by a larger vessel who had returned to port that it was too big and that we couldn't go out.

The boat ran great and really rode well in the conditions. Safely, soundly and without pushing it by any means.

You guys will get her dialed in very soon.

What's it like to have a boat that works? I can't remember.
